This is a silly question, but how long does everyone leave their race numbers on? Finished my first tri on Sunday and I'm still marked. I tried to wash them off w/ regular soap and some scrubbing, and they didn't come off right away. Serious scrubbing will take them off, but to be honest, I kinda like 'em! Is this stage 1 of tri-geekdom?

I usually wash them off the day of the race.  I use rubbing alcohol and several cotton balls.  They mostly wear off on their own, but I spend a lot of time in the sun and really don't want a sun tattoo of '197.'    Congrats on your first race!

ha ha, mine were still on somewhat last night when I swam in the gym pool   As hangloose said, I wore them with pride.  I think though the clorine took care of them now though

If you're careful and wash around them, they will last 2-3 days and go away naturally. During that time, wear them with pride.

You'll be guilty of tri-geekdom if you make them last longer by "re-marking" them yourself.

Avon Skin so Soft removes bike numbers and grease better than anything else I've ever tried.

I usually remove my numbers on race day. I feel weird walking around with numbers on me.

I like wearing them too (except that whole age thing on my calf)...but try nail polish remover when you do eventually take them off...feels nicer than scrubbing. If you play it right, you can leave just the faintest, but recognizable, trace of numbers on without causing tan line issues. ( No, that's not dirt, it's just the numbers I can't get off from that triathlon I did this weekend... )

NEVER indeed! If you mask over them with duct tape, they last longer....

I like 'em too! I halfheartedly washed my arms on Sunday night and Monday morning, but I made sure they were visible for work . I liked having my students ask about my "bad- tattoo."

They're faint today, but you can still see them.

How will the people at work know what age group I'm in if I don't have a number and F30 written all over me?

The only reason to wipe them off is so that you can get marked for your next race.

Thanks. I think I like Kosovo Kid's suggestion, but should I have all four locations tatooed? Won't there be confusion at my next race? What about future numbers, tatoo 'em all? Agh!

I'm looking forward to my pool swim tomorrow - they should still be there

I'm glad I'm not the only one that leaves them   I wash them enough to still have them sohw, but not enough that it looks intentional.  Very systematic.  I leave them for 2 days, then they come off.

Before the Black Bear Tri, I was working the body-marking area.. A guy came up and asked if he could not be marked..

He lied to his wife and told her he was working instead of being at the tri and didn't want her to find out.... But he had to be marked to race, so hopefully he got the numbers off before his wife saw...

Another vote for NEVER here.

The best way of really keeping your numbers is to stay in the sun for so long to the point where even after the race markings wash off you can see the tan left from your numbers. This happened to me back at the beginning of April for my tri in Hawaii. When I got my body marked for the tri a few weeks ago the body marker commented on my numbers still being visible. Sort of like a non-comitting tattoo of sorts

I didn't wash them off one time and I woke up to my wife complaining that #45 had transferred to one of our nice pillowcases.

At least I can tell which pillow is mine now.

Wash them off? No way we earned them.

Funny at the race I did this weekend some folks did the Int'l Saturday and HIM Sunday and they had some issues with double marking.

I went to my sons' HS graduation party tonight happily sporting a 46 on the back of my left calf.

Now sometimes they wash off to easily...thought about remarking them....LOL...just kidding...I love tri season!
