tw04429 - 2007-07-02 11:42 PM Anyone know what the lake looks like now? Is the water level REALLY low? Will we be swimming in mud? ~Terry

I don't know but we'll find out on Saturday. A bunch of people are meeting at Dallas Landing for an open water swim, you should come!

Mindy

Mindy,

Thanks for info! I wish I could meet you guys to meet you guys and to get some open water practice. Let me know how it goes!

I'm going to be in Fayetteville this weekend and will try to get in a swim in the Peachtree City lake.

Another question... is there a Forum where the informal group meetings are listed? (like the one this Saturday)

~Terry

Yes, under the US Group Training and Who's Racing Forums->Georgia, here's the direct link to that page: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=39

Whenever someone has a workout scheduled and wants to invite other folks then we'll usually post on there. Hopefully you can make it out soon!

Add to the below that I hear the officials are going to be really, really strict about bike position violations (drafting, blocking, overtaken, etc.)...

Seriously, if the foot is not better, you might be able to do a relay?

milaminute - 2007-06-27 10:26 PM

It appears that I reached my goal of not dying at Ryka and therefore I went ahead and registered for Acworth... about 24 hours before the foot fracture diagnosis.  The run is not going to be pretty.  I'll try not to trip anyone with my crutches .

Seriously, I am really behaving myself and following doctor's orders with the hope that I can do this.  If I can't participate, I'll volunteer and I'm in for meeting up at some point before/after!

Anyone know how hilly the bike course is? I'm considering signing up after finishing Ryka.

If you read the race reports from last year, most everyone wrote the bike course consisted mainly of rolling hills with a small amount of downhills and flats...

I don't think you'll be able to ride the whole course. If I remember correctly, there are several miles of the bike course on Hwy. 41. On race day we had a lane blocked off for us but if you ride it there might be a way around it.

I'm pretty much as ready as I'm gonna be. This is my last week of higher volume before cutting it back next week. This race is my "A" sprint race so I want to be sure to be fully rested. After my less than stellar performance last year I'm hoping to make a good showing this year.

I'm very excited!!  My work told me a few weeks ago that I need to work that day.  I said HECK NO- they just don't understand!!  If I have to work on Sunday, I'll go in after the race without taking a shower- that'll teach them!!

I could only ride after work. What about early morning Saturday? We could even do the part on 41 if we we're up early enough.

I of course will never be ready for any swim, no matter waht distance. I will just suffer through. I am good for the run, and am close on the bike. Since it may be a little tricky trying to ride that course, i want to ride in Cartersville this weekend. Anyone up for that, say 7am? Tried last weekend but got rained out. Then a business trip on monday-wednesday will force me to taper.

I am excited though!

Courtney, i will call you in sick that day

I'm in too, ladies... I just signed up for the race.

j/k  I did just hear this morning that they use the Acworth lake for the drinking water supply, and they just started diverting water to supply Alabama too, so not only is the water level rapidly dropping, but come January, our water bill is going to jump.  Thanks Alabama!

Has everyone seen the lastest swim wave starts:

*Swim Waves: *

7:30 - 45-49, 50-54, 55- 59, 60-64, 65-69

7:37 - 40 -44

7:40 - 35 -39

7:43 - 30 -34

7:45 - 12 - 29

I don't know if anyone else is with me but I think they need to flip flop the 1st and last group. This is going to be one insane swim.

If anyone is interested I'm going to be up at Lake Acworth on Saturday morning. I'm going to do an OWS and then a bike. Let me know if anyone wants to meet.

On the Swim Waves - it shouldn't be bad. If you go out to GA multisport website and look at the participant list the waves are broken up pretty evenly according to age groups. The 45-69 AG probably has about the same amount of people put together as each of the other age groups seperately.

Don't panic! Looks pretty well distributed.

Lisa B

PS - plus - I'm in the first wave and definitely don't want to be in the last!

Me too...but no worries! It's always so much fun beging the cat instead of the mouse in the race! It's good motivation!

I'm in the first group, but I know that most of you in the last group will more than likely pass me. Us older folks know to stay out of the way of younger folks.

Go ladeis. Everyone have a great race.

For those of you have have done this race before and considering the construction on I75, what time do you suggest arriving at Dallas Landing? Also, does anyone know if bike racks are assigned or are they first come basis? This is only my 2nd tri and my first was Iron Girl where they assigned bike racks.

Thx

If you're coming over from Roswell, actually the easiest way to get there is to go straight out Hwy. 92. That way you won't even have to mess with I75.

The racks should be set up by our race numbers with (I think) 5 bikes per rack. And if I remember correctly, numbers will be assigned alphabetically.

Just wanted to wish you all good luck this weekend!

I haven't yet even seen a triathlon, so I'm planning to come watch this one and cheer on all the wonderful women from BT.  Maybe I can pick up a few pointers for my first tri in September!
