Subject: RE: Dumb Beginner QuestionAlso, environmental conditions are going to be different and that's going to have an effect. 30 minutes at a particular effort level is the same no matter what the terrain, temperature etc. 3 miles can be 2 very different workouts depending on the environmental conditions.
The training plans are devised such that if you follow them you should be able to cover the target race distances without any problems.
