So the race is this weekend and we don't have a race thread going yet. Who's ready? I took a couple weeks off but I think it is going to be a good time. I wish the bike was a little longer. I have never been to this race before. Kylie was signed up last year, we got up and loaded the car, started heading down there and she turned to me and said "ya know, I am always excited about a race but I don't really feel like racing today" so we got off the freeway and went home and back to sleep.

Any goals?

Luke,

This is a fun and very well-organized race.  A few pointers:

1) The lake has alligators, but you don't find that out until the end of the run.  As you come back in the back side of the park towards the finish, there is a sign that says "do not disturb the alligators."  It was funny to me when I saw it, considering we didn't find out about the sign until near the end of the race....and we never saw a single alligator so don't worry.

2) The water was very warm...lukewarm bath kinda warm, in 2005.  It is shallow on the sides near the shore and there were actually a few people running in the water instead of swimming....heh.

3) The bike course was great, but if it hasn't changed, be VERY careful near the Mason Road turnaround as there are expansion joints there and several people got their wheels caught in the expansion joints and ended up going over the handlebars.

You will like the race...it was a great time, and the park there is pretty and great for spectators.

 Have fun this weekend!

Alligators? Are you kidding me Brandt!!! I think they have changed the bike course for this year and it is supposed to be better. It is a little short though at only 10.65 miles.

Not kidding at all.  It was a hilarious thing to get to the very end of the tri, be running back into the park that we started in, and see a sign asking that the alligators in the lake not be disturbed...I was cracking up at the irony that we got to see the alligtor crossing sign at the end instead of before the swim.  But like I said, no one I talked to ever saw an alligator.

Yeah I picked it up. Nothing good. A box of rice, t shirt and a hammer gel. I have heard about the 20 extra spots but I think they will be selling the spots of people who did not pick up their packets. There is at least one BT'er who I know is going to try to get one.

I'm predicting 1:08.

Contingent, of course, upon all the unknown variables.

Looks like they just changed the bike course. Some kind of issue with the traffic going under 59.

Yes, they changed the bike course. When I drove it on Friday it was closed down to one lane in each direction for construction.

That is a good question. Personally I think it was a little long, I don't think it was 7-800 meters though. I was thinking something more like 675 yds, maybe 650. Who knows.

I also think it was long... I had a good swim but my time was in the 13's...I was expecting in the high 11's and I felt pretty good in the water.

The swim definately felt longer than 600 yards. Did any of you notice that the bike was short? My bike computer says 10.32 miles (including transition).
