Swim
Comments: I started off a little fast/sloppy. After I passed a few people, I settled into a good rhythm and just went to town, caught up to a couple of people that kept getting lost and losing sight of the buoys. All this while swimming the breaststroke too. What would you do differently?: Wetsuit and 'perfect' my freestyle stroke for next year. Transition 1
Comments: It took a while to get into my socks and tie my shoes, but I just took my time and felt pretty good considering I didn't practice T1 as much as T2 What would you do differently?: Bike shoes with no laces. Bike
Comments: Started really well on bike. Weather damage to course required some last minute changes including adding a hill that was steeper than anything I've ever seen (I know, I'm whining). Kinda killed the rest of the ride, but all in all a good ride. Threw the chain twice and had to walk up the last bit of a couple smaller hills. What would you do differently?: Try to keep both of my lungs in my chest the next time I go up a big hill. Yell louder at the morons who where blocking as a serious hobby... Transition 2
Comments: I practiced this transition a good bit, so everything went as practiced. I didn't run like a madman out of the transition area, just worked up to my jogging speed. What would you do differently?: Yankz! Which, by the way, were sitting in my mail slot when I got home. Run
Comments: I felt good that I only walked 1/3 to 1/2 of the run. Everybody was so great. It was an out and back course, so a lot of the runners that were on their way in were cheering those of us on the way out. I kept looking at my watch in surprise everytime I ran past a mile marker. I couldn't believe my average speed and how good I felt! What would you do differently?: Lose some weight so that I can run the whole thing and be faster... Post race
Warm down: Walk around, eat an orange, drink water and GU20. What limited your ability to perform faster: My weight is probably the biggest thing. Something that I'm still working on and will continue to improve, it just takes time. I'm young and hopefully I'll have plenty (time, not weight). Event comments: It was an excellent race. Jen and I got there the day before to help out and ended up helping to sweep the debris off the bike course for 3 hours... Very well done event! I'm hooked!!!!! I was just looking to finish and to hopefully do it in less than 2:30:00 - check! http://www.patriotstriathlon.com/ Last updated: 2004-08-28 12:00 AM
