Pre-race routine:

My kids ran 50 yard dash was immediately prior to the 5K race. I stayed in line with them and ended up running down with them.

Comments:

I initially lined up about 6-8 layers of people behind the starting line, but when I was looking around, I saw my co-worker (ex-Marine) that was racing with me. I moved back to him. Then it started pouring down rain. Lots of big drops. After the run started, I moved slowly thru the pack. The pack finally cleared up after the first mile. My heart rate jumped into the 180's pretty quick and stayed or above the entire race. Chris (the co-worker) initially moved the pack faster than me, but I passed him in before the first mile and left him there.

What would you do differently?:

Stayed up close to the front.

Pics of the kids racing. I'm the one in yellow. In the second pic, my son is asking "Is that it?" He wanted a longer race like we did last time.
