Overcast
Total Time = 2h 22m 22s
Overall Rank = 29/232
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/18
Pre-race routine:

Couple of Eggos and dropped Evan off at the inlaws and headed to race site. First tri so had no clue what to do as far as set up and body marking. Just followed the pack, got bike racked and marked, checked out the water and rode for a little bit to make sure everything was up to snuff on bike.
Event warmup:

Brief bike and short run.
Swim
  • 29m 48s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Horrible swim, first off everyone said the course was long. Was thinking 25-27 min even without the wetsuit but almost 30? First off I wrestled with two dudes for the first 500 yards. No matter what I did they were there. Went off to right they followed, picked up pace they were there. I was cussing under the water at them. Coming back around the bouys straight into the sun. I couldn't see a thing ( I also need new goggles) Went hard last 200 yards into the shore
What would you do differently?:

everything, move up further, go harder at the beginning, smack those dudes on the heads
Transition 1
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

was doing ok until a guy almost ran into me forcing me off the pavement into the dirt
What would you do differently?:

practice running with the bike and jumping on it
Bike
  • 1h 09m 54s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 21.29 mile/hr
Comments:

ok bike, HR was high, hills were a bit%@. Not good on hills but did break the speed limit on a 35mph road coming down a hill
What would you do differently?:

work on hills and cornerinig
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

shoes too tight to get right on, had to sit down and jam them on
What would you do differently?:

work on shoes to make them perfect for slipping right on
Run
  • 40m 51s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 06m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

good run although starting out seemed tough to get legs under me. Passed a lot of people on run
What would you do differently?:

do more bricks to acclimate legs to going right off bike
Post race
Warm down:

nothing, saw Evan and his Grandpa and talked with them

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim and hills

Shermbelle - 2007-06-19 10:27 PM great job out there Brian, tough day with the humidity and the warm water

Thanks.  The heat didn't bother me at all.  I must of had the nutrition/hydration down pretty well.  It was my 1st Oly too; the unknown was probably the biggest factor.

You had a great race too.  Really solid splits across the board.  Hopefully we will cross paths at Steelhead!
