Sunny
Total Time = 1h 00m
Overall Rank = 518/629
Age Group = Female 25-29
Age Group Rank = 24/32
Pre-race routine:

Walked around a bit, to get the blood flowing. I work the graveyard shift so this is normally the time when I am sleeping
Event warmup:

Walked around to see what the sponsors were offering. Talked to some of the people that I knew
Run
  • 39m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

This is the first run where I have used a heart rate monitor and it helped a ton. I forgot to start the time and HR when I crossed the start line so I started out a little to fast and it my heart rate was zone 4 when I realized that nothing was beeping at me. I realized I forgot to start it and then it started beeping. It took a while to get my heart rate to go down, but walking helped alot but I made sure that I kept my pace up while walking.

About 6 weeks ago my mile times where around 16:48 so I can't complain about today
What would you do differently?:

Start my HRM at the beginning of the race and hydrate better before the race. I'm not use to being up and training during that time of day. The sun was extremely hot and I felt like my skin was burning. Next time I'll be sure to hydrate.

I'm doing a triathlon in Texas in July and the heat has me a little worried.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked around, got some water and some oranges. After I cooled down, I went over to get the free BBQ that they were giving everybody along with free beer and rootbeer floats.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not drinking enough water.

Event comments:

Marine Corps Community Services always puts on a good race for the military and anyone who can get off of work at 1:00pm. The race is free to anyone who wants to run, I can't complain. The people and the sponsors are great.

Wow!  A free race and free food and beer!  I'd be in heaven.  LOL!

Great job on the improvement in your run pace over the past 6 weeks.  That is awesome!  Plus doing a race when you would normally be sleeping.  You did great!

Cortney,

Congrats on the race !!

Sounds like you had a good day out there.  Way to go.  That heat is tough and sounds like you have another warm climate race coming up.  No substitute for doing your training in the heat of the day.

Hope your catching up on your sleep and are gearing up for your next race.  When is it ??
