Expert 931 Smyrna, GA | Subject: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 Anyone thinking about doing this? GEORGIA GAMES OPEN WATER SWIM: JULY 14 Triathletes and distance swimmers- here is a great event for you! The annual Georgia Games Open Water swim will be held Sat, July 14 (note the change in date-original date was July 21) at Buford Dam Beach on Lake Lanier. There are 3 events: 1k, 3k, and 5k. Both the 3 and 5k will be at 9 AM, so swimmers must choose between these 2 events. The 1k is at 11 AM- so for those who really want to swim a lot, it's possible to enter both the 1k and either the 3 or 5k. The registration desk opens for check in at 8:30 AM. Info and entry form were included in the June LMSC newsletter. It can also be accessed on the Georgia State Games website at http://gagames.kennesaw.edu/swimy.htm There is also an online event entry available at http://216.197.124.4/georgia/registrationStep0.asp?action=&sportID=20 Timely entries are due either by mail or online by July 7. Entries received after July 7 and on-site entries will be assessed an extra $5 late fee. For questions, contact Event Director ROB COPELAND at [email protected]

Expert 882 Marietta, GA | Subject: RE: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 Why does everything always fall on the same weekend? I would love to find a 3K to do in the future, not that I like swimming at all, it just sounds like an interesting challenge. Maybe another one will come up this year that doesn't fall on the same weekend as other races... |

Master 1888 Winder, GA | Subject: RE: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 I just looked at the website and I'm confused........it said it was open to any member of USA swimming and US Master's. I'm not a member of either of those, does that mean I couldn't enter? And my brain is switched to "off" today, the 3k swim is 1.9 miles, how far is that in yards? |

Expert 931 Smyrna, GA | Subject: RE: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 Ah it does say that, doesn't it? I went to USA Swimming's website and it sounds like they have a 1 day membership, just like USAT. You might want to email the race director and see if they are doing that for the GA Games. |

Master 1730 Atlanta, GA | Subject: RE: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 1 mile is about a 1,650 yards. So, you are talking a healthy swim. Sounds like a blast. I would do it in a minute, but I will be with the family in Fla. deperately seeking places to work out. |

Master 1888 Winder, GA | Subject: RE: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 I emailed someone from the Georgia Games about the one-day membership, will post when I get a response. I think I'd stick to the 1k (maybe the 3k?). Wait, I just remembered my husband will be in China. I'm still pretty much a maybe......depends on the membership issue and if I get a sitter. Also, I didn't see how much it costs? (maybe I missed it?) Oh, and here are the conversions: 1k = 1094 yards, 3k = 3281 yards, 5k = 5468 yards.

Expert 696 Sugar Hill, GA | Subject: RE: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 If I'm not mistaken the cost was $30. $20 to register for the GA games and then $10 for each event you do. I'll be curious about the 1 day memberships, I just logged off the registration site and was bummed that I was ineligible. |

Expert 931 Smyrna, GA | Subject: RE: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 I just called Angie Taylor at the GA Games and she said you don't have to be a member of either USA Swimming or USMS to enter. She said if you register online you can just select the open division and it will let you register without putting in a membership number. |

Veteran 294 Atlanta, GA | Subject: RE: Georgia Games Open Water Swim - Saturday, 7/14 Two things - 1. I'm in - Matt said go, so I'm registered for the 3K. I'll see y'all there. 2. 2008 is really unlikely to happen, as Georgia dropped their funding (cough) despite the surplus (cough). Here's the mail from Eric Pfeifer. It's a little beyond my pockets to save it, but you never know who may decide to step up. This is a really excellent organization, for both juniors and us old folks alike, well worth our help: Dear Georgia Games Supporter, The Georgia Games needs YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP! Due to budgetary constraints, the State did not re-fund the Georgia Games budget with state dollars. We must raise $100,000 of private funding immediately if the State Games are to continue into 2008. If private funding does not occur by prior to August 15th, the 2007 Georgia Games will be conducted BUT they will be the last ones. The Georgia Games will face immediate elimination after this year's Games if funding is not obtained. In order to keep the Games alive for all Georgia citizens whether you live in Augusta, Adel, Calhoun, Columbus, Evans, Gainesville, Jessup, Savannah, Macon, Newnan, Ochlocknee, Perry, Reidsville, Swainsboro, Atlanta or any one of the other thousand cities in Georgia, please donate now! IF EVERY PERSON who gets this email will do just two things: 1) Give a tax deductible donation of $25 to the Georgia Sports Foundation CLICK HERE TO DONATE http://gagames.kennesaw.edu/donation_page.2.htm 2) Forward this to at least 5 of your family, friends and colleagues asking for their help to help "Keep The Games Alive" by donating too - you will help to save the Games! This will help keep the Georgia Games alive until 2008 where we can make adjustments and attract new supporters. PLEASE DONATE TODAY at CLICK HERE TO SAVE THE GAMES. This is a tax-deductible write-off. This is an urgent need!
