The week before the race and STILL no one's started a thread? For shame!

Guess I'll be the one then. As this is my first Olympic (tried to do CapTex, cancelled sadly), does anyone have any advice? Either in general, or specifically for this course?

Thanks in advance!

I asked this question before the Metroplex sprint but thought I would ask again.  Bike inspection, do I need to do it?  I did it for the sprint and have the sticker (blue one) that the wrote the date on.  It looks like it says that bike inspection started after 7/1 (or something like that).  Do they change the color, I am just paranoid and really don't feel like taking my bike to work on Thurs or Friday to have it inspected at lunch.

Actually this thread was started so early that's it on the 2nd page now.

Be ready for the run!
It's hot.  It's not shaded.  It will feel a lot longer than it really is.  It will suck the life right out of you and eat your soul.  And it's only a fraction of the 'energy lab' that the dam becomes at Prairieman.

I am in.  I actually am the one who started the original thread probably a little earlier than needed.

Hot!! I love it hot but maybe not has hot and humid as is is probably going to be.  I am really glad to here it only gets worse for praireman, which I am planning on making my first HIM (hooraay).

I don't know if your previous inspection will carry over, but apparently they're doing inspections at the same place as packet pickup on Saturday, so worse case you can just get it inspected then.

Good luck this weekend!

At least you understand what you're about to do, so you're more likely to pace yourself well and be hydrated so you have a good run.  Hopefully we'll get lucky and it won't be like the last few days, but if it's hot then be ready for it to be brutal.

Ken, when you're on the dam, just imagine running the next 7 miles like that.  The challenge of the run at Prairieman is more mental than physical.  And if you have to ask if you need to get your bike inspected, then you need to get it inspected.

Aaron, thanks for the advice.  I think I should be okay with the heat plus I have heard that it is suppose to be a little cooler (probably 90 instead of 100) but I typically run around lunch time anyway so I am pretty acclaimated to the heat.  I know one thing, I won't be quitting.  I might walk or they will have to drag my off the course.  Yeah, mid as well get my bike inspected plus I think my shifter cables are stretched and not working properly so I have to take it to Bike Mart anyways.

Good luck to all.

Well, I should be done racing around 10-10:30 AM. Honestly, it's not that hot around that time.

I ran 10 miles at around 6:00 PM the other day... and trust me, it was hot! With the humidity and heat index, it was around 100. Sure, I walked some, but I made it the whole way... on some water and 1 gel.

I'm not scared. BRING IT!

If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen... but I CAN TAKE THE HEAT!

X2.  I did the sprint on essentially the same course and they showed my avg speed as 22.4 (I think it was actually closer to 21.4 but I think the distance was off slightly) and I normally average around 20 if I push in training.  The average last year was right around 20mph and the leader was something in the high 26 range.

For me, anything under 2:30 would be great.  This is a 'c' race - no taper or race specific training.

Swim-25
T1- 2:00
Bike - 1:10
T2 - 1:00
Run - :52

This will be my first Oly... so I have no idea what to expect. I'm hoping for 3:00 to 3:15. We'll see I'm not the greatest at pacing myself!
