Not in Chicago, but has anyone tried the Masters group in Naperville?  I was actually looking at the website today, already thinking about off-season things to work on....

I have been swimming with the Chicago Blue Dolphins for about 3 years now. The team pratices on Mon-Thur evenings from 7:30-9 and Sun from 9-10:30 at UIC. We also have weekday morning practices at Moody Bible College in/near the loop from 5-6am and 6-7am (not sure exactly as I never make morning practices). On tuesday night we are in the 50m pool, the rest we are in a 25yd pool.

It is a great group with various levels from beginners to college swimmers looking for more pool time. The head coach, Fitz, writes unique pratices for each level so your workout is customized to what you need. We mainly swim freestyle but on Wed and Sun there is usually a lane for IM. Practices are usually a warmup with drills followed by a main set. Each day has a different focus like Mon and Wed are technique, Tues endurance, Thur speed, etc.

You should drop in for a free pratice. If you go to the website you can register for a free session (chicagobluedolphins.com). And if you decide to join there are 2 types of memberships -- punch card (10 swims for 125) or session member (as many times as you want during a session for 125).

PM if you have any specific questions.

I have never swimmed with them but have swimmed against the Naperville Waves at various meets. All I can say is they are extremely fast and competitive.

Now when you say beginner what do you mean. I need help in my form and breathing techniques so I don't consider myself a novice but I am no way competitive.

i was on the blue dolphins webste the other day and now i have a goal i need to meet. for level one you need to swim 300 meters under 7 minutes, which i cant do now. My goal is to start the Jan 2 session and in the mean time swim, swim, swim. I actually have taken a few private leasons with fitz so i know he is a good coach, but i dont think i am quite ready to join up.

I swim at the Northbrook Spartan Swim Club (NSSC) which is located at GBN Highschool in the Northern Burbs. Not much coaching, as everyone (except me) was clearly a college swimmer, but the workouts that are put up are excellent, as are the facilities. You probably could get some coaching, as the coach is there for every workout, but I just haven't asked.
