Sunny
Total Time = 3h 35m 41s
Overall Rank = 260/277
Age Group = F 20-24
Age Group Rank = 9/9
Pre-race routine:

Awake @ 4am. got up @ 5 to eat PB toast and drink some water. Got dressed and got the family (aunt & cousin did short course) ready to go.
Event warmup:

Tried to get used to the COLD water by swimming a bit.
Swim
  • 52m 15s
  • 1640 yards
  • 03m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Yeah, I SUCK big time. I was hoping to do it in 40min, but I screwed up. I have trouble with the water being cold & losing my breath, so I was doing backstroke in the beginning. Once I started, I didn't want to stop....like I was afraid I wouldn't be able to swim or something. Plus the chop really sucked! I'm def. not used to that so I need to focus more on open water swims.
What would you do differently?:

Not be a whimp....I KNOW I can swim freestyle!
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Awesome wetsuit strippers pulled my suit right off....perfect!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 39m 12s
  • 25.7 miles
  • 15.54 mile/hr
Comments:

So guess what happens on my first olympic tri....I get a flat tire. RIGHT out of T1. Luckily a volunteer could call a guy over to help me change the tire quick, but it still took about 4 min I would guess. Apparently I blew out the valve???? Bad luck if you ask me. Anyway, I'm not sure what me real MPH was because of this lost time. Overall, I think I did fine especially working in with some hills.
What would you do differently?:

Not get a flat
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

I guess I took longer than expected, I'm over it though.
What would you do differently?:

Move FASTER
Run
  • 1h 00m 30s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm actually happy with this time, I averaged what I hoped for. I only walked a few steps to make sure I got fluids down at water stations. I'm proud of myself because I ran up the entire big hill.. no walking :)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Ate and talked to family

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Open water swim issues, flat tire

Event comments:

I must say I did soooo bad that I'm embarrassed to post this, but I'm trying to be happy for finishing. LOVE this race! Did sprint last year (and didn't do too bad), did olympic this year & did REALLY BAD.....but that's ok because I just wanted to finish being my first Olympic & all. I knew swimming would be a challenge, but somehow I figured it out, SLOWLY but surely!

Hey you shouldn't be embarrassed at all, you did great. You finished your first oly, despite the challenges. Cold, cold swim and you did it. Flat on the bike, no problem, you kept going. Way to overcome the adversity!

My family has a lot of Door County vacations under our belt.  Now you've got me thinking about a great destination race for next year!

Congrats on your success... I flatted in my first Oly tri (firs tri of any distance actually) a few weeks ago... at mile 2.  So I feel your pain.

I never looked at it that way, thanks....that makes me feel better!

I would say if you're on vacation in Door County it's worth doing this tri for sure!
