Run
Comments: this was my first 10k, and i'm very happy with how i did. i tried to hold back a bit since i have my first half-marathon next weekend, but still felt like i had a good race. i'm really happy that i brought my new water bottle pack. there were only a few water stations on the run and i might have hit a wall if i didn't have my own water with me. also gave me a chance to try it out on a longer run before the half marathon. also, i started towards the back of the pack this time, since i was planning on going more slowly. it was great to actually pass some people instead of the other way around! What would you do differently?: i still need to work on pacing. everything was fine and i had steam to spare, sprinting to the finish line...but i set a goal to go slowly the first two miles and i didn't accomplish that goal. this was a good place to test some of the pacing i want to try at the half marathon, and i didn't really stick with my plan. oh well. it was still a good race! Post race
Warm down: did a 1k kids' run with my 3-year old, ella. she had a great time, but at about 1/2k she wanted me to carry her. so, we walked for a bit, than ran some more. she did great. all the kids got a ribbon and a free t-shirt! stretched a bit, had a bagel, then headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: i'm still learning how to pace myself. Event comments: i don't have a vast race experience, but this was a great race for a family. there were two different kids races, free arts & crafts for the kids, kid tattoos, face painting, a climbing wall, a stage with music and a yoga instructor who geared her yoga towards the kids. ella had a GREAT time. plus, it is a beautiful park to race in. this one is on the calendar for next year for sure! there was no chip for this race. race results will be available online in a day or two. for now, i'm just going off my own watch. will post pictures soon! not a lot of sleep last night (or all this week, for that matter). woke up around 6am (not by choice - the girls both woke up early). had some oatmeal with honey and milk, a wee bit of coffee ('cause i needed it!), then headed out.
did a little jogging with ella (so, not too fast). stretched. checked out some of the event booths. downed a clif shot and some water before heading out.
