Swim
Comments: First open water, challenging but about what I expected. Fairly heavy current a nuisance at first, but on the backstretch really carried me through. Lots of kicking in the face, etc. 68* seemed cold but it was really not bad at all. Definitely would not bother with a wetsuit until 65 or below. What would you do differently?: A little frantic at the start. Definitely steer clear of the huge mob. Train more in the open water Transition 1
Comments: Felt very tired after the swim. Not sure why everyone else kept their cap on all the way up the beach. What would you do differently?: Keep water they gave me and leave it at the transition area. Bike
Comments: First time every biking with/against other bikers. Seemed to keep up pretty well, passed all the mountain bikes, all the tri-bikes passed me. What would you do differently?: Train more Transition 2
Comments: Ran in same shoes I biked in so no trouble really, just put on my bib # and was off. Stopped to tie shoe, probably shouldn't have done that. What would you do differently?: Probably stretch a little before starting the run so I don't cramp up. Run
Comments: Started off VERY sore. Calves started cramping about 200 yds into the run and ass was just plain sore from sitting on the bike. However by the 1/2 mi point, they had worked themselves out for the most part. 1st 2 miles - 7:40 pace, last mile 8:20-30? What would you do differently?: Train more (ie bricks) Post race
Warm down: Stretched out for a while, ate some food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, only decided to do this 2 weeks ago. Only swam twice. New to biking, and never have done a brick before. Event comments: Achieved my goal of finishing under 1:30 in my first triathlon! Looking forward to getting more into this sport. Pasta for dinner, bed at 10. Woke up at 4:30, ate some yogurt, and drove to Delaware. Set up my transition area, scoped out the course. Had an energy gel about 45 min before the race started.
Stretched out for several minutes.
