Pre-race routine:

Got up around 5 well got out of bed at 5 since I hardly slept. Ate a clif bar showered loaded up the car and headed out. In hindsight I should've had more to eat for breakfast
Event warmup:

Jumped in the water for a quick 5 minute swim before my wave started. Madkat spotted me about a minute before my wave started and we exchanged a quick hello.
Swim
  • 31m 32s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was expecting maybe 35-37 minutes on this swim so getting out of the water in under 32 was surprising. :) One thing I noticed right away is at this distance there are a lot of fish. The pack pulled away from me pretty quick and I was by myself for most of the swim. Swam wide for most of the swim so I wouldn't get mauled by the later waves. After turning the first buoy the sun was directly in my eyes so I had trouble sighting the 2nd and 3rd buoys. I think the swim was a little short but I'm not complaining ;)
What would you do differently?:

Get tinted goggles

Transition 1
  • 04m 3s
Comments:

had a little problem getting the wetsuit off of my left foot. Otherwise everything went fine
What would you do differently?:

Could have been a little faster otherwise went fine
Bike
  • 1h 15m 40s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Had an great ride. Held a pace I didn't think I'd be able to do, but maybe a little too hard. Did have some cramping issues with my calfs again. Passed about as many that passed me. Only drank my aero bottle probably should've had twice the amount had it with me but just didn't do it. A mistake that I'd pay for later on the run.
What would you do differently?:

drink more
take a gel at the halfway point
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

went smooth but could have been a little faster
What would you do differently?:

Take some fuel in during tranistion
Run
  • 1h 04m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

longest brick was 3 miles and that's about where the wheels fell off. Was able to hold my race pace for about 3.5 miles then it all fell apart. Took water at every aid station dumping one on my head and drinking the other. Hr never really got out of control but the legs just didn't want to move any faster. Took about 8 - 9 1 minute walk breaks in the last 2 miles but knew by the last mile I could walk it in and still break 3 hours.
What would you do differently?:

hydrate and fuel better on the bike
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed some water and gatorade, hung out with Madkat and Eric waiting for the awards. Took home 4th place Hardware in the Clyde division!!! :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough fuel intake on the bike.
My weight
Skipped a few long runs during training to race some sprints.
