So exciting to read this thread, I'm starting to feel pretty burnt out with IMF training but knowing that there will be so many BT'ers cheering and volunteering, I should get my butt back in the pool or on my bike

This is exactly what I needed to read about. I only registered for one Ironman (Arizona) and wasn't able to make it. So knowing that it's better to be there in person for this event, I think I'll have to make a trip myself. Maybe I'll bring the kid and go to disneyworld

I'm planning on going down and volunteering too and registering the next day for 2008. Wondering what I want to do as a volunteer. They have you pick your top 3 choices for volunteering.

My suggestion is volunteer for the late shift as a finish line catcher.  This will give you a chance to hang out and watch the swim start, rest during the day, see the pro winners finish, and then you get to watch the parade of finishers (ranging from stoic to determined, to absolutely emotional finishers).   I like seeing the pros finish, but I really like seeing the people who finish in the last 30 minutes.  They have given it everything, and its very inspiring to witness.

It's a great motivator to go hang out and participate!
