Pre-race routine:

up at 5:30AM... 2 pieces of toast, a clib bar (partial), and a cup of coffee with cream. Got to race site at 6:30ish.. setup spot ... swam in seaweed water for 10 minutes... talked to Sal, Matchman, mndiver...
Swim
  • 34m 55s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

drafted very well... for awhile ..lost the guy when ran into group of slower swimmers.. kept track of buoys by just concentrating on following those aroud me.. so I kept my eyes underwater mostly...
What would you do differently?:

not much swim training this year at all... train more..
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

nice segue from swim to bike.. no walking with bike.. just jump on and leave.. works awsome.. only race that does this..that I have attended
What would you do differently?:

hustle more
Bike
  • 1h 04m 26s
  • 22.99 miles
  • 21.41 mile/hr
Comments:

not sure about distance.. they say 37km.. but it might have been shorter.. 21.42 is pretty fast for me..
What would you do differently?:

push a lot harder.. saving my digging for the PIG...
Transition 2
  • 04m 21s
Comments:

thought I was in rack 2.. and I just stood there looking for few minutes.. dumbfounded.. turned around and looked in rack lane 1.. there I was.. stupid..

I had to use the BR at mile 10 on the bike... so I quickly went to the porta-pod and made us of it... ahhh .. another 2 minutes most likely past .. ugh!!
What would you do differently?:

not drink so much... avoid forgetting where I put my stuff.. and the not use the porta pod.. Im such a slow poke in t zones.. ugh
Run
  • 55m 28s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

wasn't sure about pace unti I hit the miler marker.. steady 9 minute miles pretty much. Kicked it in at the end.. for last .2 mile. It rained during the run.. thank the gods.. I seem to fade pretty quick when the sun comes out and bakes .. so the rain and overcast was nice...
What would you do differently?:

nothing.. steady like a turtle.. wasn't pushing .. afraid to injure myself b4 the pig ...
Post race
Warm down:

mmmm. hot dogs... sprite.. toasted gram honey bears... bananas... stood under tree...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

this was taper... my running severly needs more training... obviously.

Event comments:

I really like this race.. its flat.. well organized ... I didn't like the lake this year.. seaweed was terrible...

They sortah messed up the national anthem.. so I was a bit surprised.. could have been more organized in that regard I suppose..

This year...i just wasnt as pysched or trained as well.. if I had shaved off the 4-5 minutes i burned in the t-zone it might have been more comparable.. 9 minutes slower because of the run and the BR break most likely.. Swim: 436, Bike: 332, Run: 434

Nice race, Rodger! Don't worry about the transitions. Booking through those for us MOP/BOPers is overrated. I especially took my time in T2 to catch my breath a little.

BTW, the results have the bike distance as 34.4k or 21.4 mi. That put my avg. at 19.5 mph which jives with what my bike 'puter was telling me.

Kick some arse next weekend at the Pig. Hopefully that lake will be substantially better than yesterday!

Good to see you Saturday, Rodger...that's a pretty good swim considering the conditions...hard to stay hydrodynamic when you're carrying an extra pound of weeds

Bike transition was awesome...only at Turtleman...do we need to put up a bunch of shiny balloons at transition for you so you can find your spot?   Bummer...we all do it...(snicker...)

Way to hold 9s on the run...that run was BRUTAL!!!

But everything was allright, because they had h'dogs at the finish line...my all-time favorite recovery food...

Have fun slaughtering the pig...
