Total Time = 1h 52m
Overall Rank = 469/530
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 27/33
Pre-race routine:

Got to the park at 5:40, it opened at 5:30, and the parking lot was already getting full. Had a banana & some strawberries. Forgot my granola bar. Got everything into the transition area and walked around stretching
Swim
  • 09m 40s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

The race start was a little ackward. We were allowed through the starting gate, but then stood in the water for a bit until the starter signaled to go. I don't know how they started the timeing chips. I was able to swim more than half of it free sytle. Big improvement over the last race.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on upper body strength and distance swimming.
Transition 1
  • 03m 32s
Comments:

Went without sock in the bike shoes. Saved a couple of seconds there. Dropped my water bottle as I was taking off on the bike, so I then only had a backup bottle without a sippy top. Bummer.
What would you do differently?:

Try to get water bottles that won't fall out of the rack.
Bike
  • 49m 21s
  • 13 miles
  • 15.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Forgot to put my computer on the bike. By the time I noticed, I was a little over a mile into the ride. So, I had to guess on my speed and cadence. They had put the scare into us about drafting and passing. I did not notice any drafting but there were a lot of people who were blocking the passing. Otherwise my ride went rather smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Put the bike computer on. Train more on hills and work on building up speed.
Transition 2
  • 02m 57s
What would you do differently?:

Need to set up my stuff on the side that I rack the bike from. Lost some minutes running around the rack to my running gear.
Run
  • 46m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 15m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

I actually did try to run a little bit. Being a walker, the running is definately different.
What would you do differently?:

It is easier to get a pace going if you have someone to go with, or if you can have music.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, some stretching. Bummer when I got home, I found the shirt I was given is small. Lots of lines to get the shirt and food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ME! I need to train more.

Event comments:

The finish line is about 1 mile from the start. You had to walk about a half mile from the finish to get to the shuttle. Beautiful little town & park. I'll be back next year.

Great race, KNS. I think I passed your water bottle (turquoise nalgene right by the entrance to the park?). I had the same problem in transition about running around the bike. It makes me feel better that I wasn't alone!
