Overall Rank = 90/279
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 12/24
Pre-race routine:

Chatted with fellow tri-heads including Motivated (Karl) and Cavu9 (Lane). Set up my T- area and tried to stay dry! (Ate 1 bowl of oatmeal and green tea 2 hours prior to warm up)
Event warmup:

Ate my chocolate Power gel 45 minutes prior to the start. Ran for 4-5 minutes and stretched. Undressed and headed for a quick swim in the ocean.
Swim
  • 02m 49s
  • 200 meters
  • 01m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Decent swim considering the conditions. Again, I wish I maintained most of my form but it was tough.
What would you do differently?:

More ocean/open water swimming!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Did not get my splits from the timekeepers and forgot to split my watch too. Faster T-1 vs. my first race though!
What would you do differently?:

Race in a top I can wear with all 3 portions of the race as putting on a shirt wastes valuable time. I will not wear cycling gloves anymore in sprints either!
Bike
  • 31m 34s
  • 9.4 miles
  • 17.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Decent bike leg considering the conditions. I need to work on my time trials and will invest in pedals and cycling shoes for next season!
What would you do differently?:

Not much except for practice time trials (fast, short rides).
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Unfortunately it was wet and I could not get my left foot out of the clip so I experienced my first bout with road rash at the completion of the bike! (There are 2 kinds of cyclist.....one who has crashed and one who will) I ate it and bounced right up without missing a beat.
What would you do differently?:

Invest in cycling shoes/pedals.
Run
  • 23m 48s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I started with a side stitch and it finally went away at the turn. I think I started breathing "correctly" once I calmed down.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks, bricks, bricks!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for a few minutes, stretched and drank water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough short sprints on the bike and, of course, bricks.

Event comments:

Not very well orgainized but a fun way to end the season. Don't know if I will do it again unless I am in Florida on vacation.

Tony,

That was a fun race even though it was a bit disorganized.  I'm glad to have the experience of riding in the rain so I'll be better prepared for the next time it happens.  It was cool seeing you and Lane.  I hope the knee heals up quickly and I'll look forward to meeting up with you guys in the Spring.

By the way, you smoked the run, buddy.  Nice goin'.

Karl
