Pre-race routine:

Left at 4:30 a.m from Los Angeles to Oceanside. Made it in good time. Ate a bagel with cream cheese, yogurt (at 3:45 a.m.) and a banana when we arrived at the venue.
Event warmup:

Walked a bit, got in the water after transition area closed. We had almost an hour before our wave was due to start. Water was nice!
Swim
  • 16h 11m
  • 500 yards
  • 3h 14m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

The best swim I've had. I was at 13:44 out of the water before I ran up the sand to the transition area. The water was nice. I kept telling myself to calm down which seemed to help. A HUGE improvement from my first triathlon swim. Not too much zig zagging either. Overall, it was good and I enjoyed it and felt like I did well.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

It was good. I did have a feeling that I had forgotten something but I didn't. I might have felt this way because it went well. :)
Bike
  • 1h 32m 34s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 12.08 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to work on climbing hill. I really suck at it. Basically just kept my legs moving and tried different things with the gears to see what worked. I had a much better time of it after the turn around. I did get over some speed fears though. I ate and drank on the bike without stopping. I did walk for a few minutes which gave me new legs for the rest of the ride. Overall, I enjoyed it and thought I did pretty well for my second tri.
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Remember to grab my water bottle on the run.
Run
  • 40m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

It was hot. People are SO nice! Lots had finished already but plenty were still out and cheering us on. My friend ran with me the last half mile or so to the finish. Lots of hot marines all along the course.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around drank water, ate bananas and oranges. sport beans. I really really jabber incessantly after a race I am so excited to have finished. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need more experience with it all - the swim, bike and running.

Event comments:

Well organized, on time, beautiful and nice people all around me - an excellent day I'd say!

Great job out there Dolores! I'm bummed that we didn't get the group together, but there's always next time! Keep up the good work and congratulations.

I think you input your swim time wrong. you put 16 hrs and 11 minutes.. see how it says you swam 100 yrds in 3hours, 14min and 12 sec.. that would be slower than doggy paddling backward...
