East Grand Rapids
Total Time = 1h 46m 52s
Overall Rank = 237/1009
Age Group = M30-40
Age Group Rank = 30/99
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5am... bowl of cereal, banana and powerade. Over to transition area with my brother in law.
Event warmup:

By the time I racked my bike, got the t-area set-up and hit the porta-john, it was almost time to start... didn't even get in the water. Just some light stretching.
Swim
  • 16m 44s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

Even with a wetsuit, I'm just not a great swimmer. This was actually the toughest start I've had - just brutal. Got hit in the face 3-4 times (3 in a row by the same person). Sighted okay but got offcourse once. Once the inital melee was over, I did pretty well by my standards.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Pretty good t1... I can never get my wetsuit off as quickly as I should (the size 13's don't help) but I went sockless for the first time and tried to focus on being quick in the transitions... this was 22/90 in my ag. Not bad.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe a little spray oil on my ankles.
Bike
  • 51m 16s
  • 18 miles
  • 21.07 mile/hr
Comments:

Wow - I averaged 21 mph on the bike! Sweet! I've been at just over 20 and Steelhead was 18.5... this was a great bike for me. Depsite that, I ranked 53 in my ag and 384 overall... there are some good bikers and a lot of nice bikes in Grand Rapids...
What would you do differently?:

Get a nice tri bike! (Oh wait, my wife just saw that and now I'm in trouble).
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Another good t-time (for me)... I could not have done this much quicker... fastest overall in ag was 1:05 so not far off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 35m 4s
  • 5 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Very solid run - I was feeling a bit heavy legged at the beginning, but got into a rythem and started passing people...
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Event comments:

Third year doing this race... there seemed to be a lot more people this year but was still well organized and on time. My grandparents and some other family wanted to see me race so I felt a little pressure to have a good time... ending up being a personal best by 4 minutes - was very pleased with the race!
