Pre-race routine:

Got up, headed out to the race site, set up transition area, ate a bagel with josh, and got ready to go
Event warmup:

Warmed up in the water for a few minutes, trying to get used to the cold!
Swim
  • 32m 53s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a pretty good swim with me- I managed not to get lost (first time this year!). This was the first race I really got kicked or hit though, and it was most of the way through the race (maybe that's a good sign- I'm swimming around people :-p) Got tired faster than I thought I should, but that could be due to just not being totally recovered from the half.
What would you do differently?:

For this race... NOTHING!!! In future, work on drafting a little bit better, and work on swim endurance
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

The swim/bike transition was a pretty long run (not as long as the half, but up a hill and some stairs). Coming out of the transition area, you had to run your bike up a hill because the mount/dismount line was in the middle of the hill, which made it difficult to mount. I ended up not running as much as I would have liked from the swim to the transition area, but the hill was pretty steep, and I just wanted a break :-p I did run once I actually got in the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot- it was a fairly decent transition - need to get a bit faster with getting the wetsuit off.
Bike
  • 1h 30m 36s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.46 mile/hr
Comments:

The course was definitely challenging! Hillier than I expected, but not to the point where it was too hard, just challenging. I rode this very easy, knowing that my position wasn't tuned in (again, my feet fell asleep before mile 10), and because I had no expectations for this race, having been sick and not knowing if I was fully recovered. I rode comfortably, but not straining myself, and I was pretty happy with my pacing, considering the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Not a whole lot- rode a smart course. Maybe pushed it a little bit harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

This transition was cool! I caught up with Josh just before we finished the bike, so we were in transition together, which may have made me a bit slower than I normally would have been, but more fun! I accidentally racked my bike on top of my shoes, and knocked my socks off, so I had to move my bike and fix my socks, but didn't add too much time, really.
What would you do differently?:

Not rack my bike on top of my run stuff!
Run
  • 1h 05m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a pretty great run! Started off running with Josh but when he started cramping I went on, thinking he would catch up to me. Felt very comfortable throughout the run, although my legs did tighten up from not being used to running on those kinds of hills.
What would you do differently?:

Train on hills more for the next one- for this one, nothing!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was hot, and I was purposefully trying to take it a little easier than I would normally, knowing that the MS150 is coming up next weekend, and that I might not be fully recovered from the Half.

Great race, and you are an animal, a HIM, then a OLY then the MS150. Keep it up and you will be set for your IRONMAN. Great race.
