Run
Comments: The first two miles were at 10:30 pace due to crowds & starting too far back. Spent much of this time running on side of road trying to pass people. Since this was just a training day, spent the run enjoying myself and chatting with Mike Ricci & Kirk MacDonald. Felt great, and pleased with result after 5 hour bike the day before.... What would you do differently?: Start toward front of pack. It was nice to pass people the entire morning, but it was a bit silly after awhile. Post race
Warm down: Welcomed Kirk across the line for a new PB, spoke with friends, then just drove Mike home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Starting position, plus the simple fact that this was a training run for Kona, not a race. Also, stopped to pee in a porta-potty, which added time to the clock. Finally, if I don't go on a long ride the day before, and actually prepare for a half-marathon, the results will probably improve. Finally, stayed up until 1am the night before eating crappy food, drinking tons of alcohol-free beer, and dancing. That couldn't have helped matters any! Event comments: This is a wonderful race, although it appears to have lost some participants over last year. Hopefully that will pick up again next year. Just really an enjoyable morning. Woke up at 5am after 4.5 hours of sleep, to drive to Boulder for early registration. There, just wandered around aimlessly in freezing wind. Picked up registration packet. Met up with Mike Ricci. Saw Matt off for his full marathon.
None. Just tried to avoid hypothermia in wind.
