Comments: Ran the first mile at a decent pace, but about halfway through the second mile knew that I couldn't hold it for the course. Faded even further in miles 5 and 6, finished about three minutes slower than last year's PR. I'm blaming the heat, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! What would you do differently?: Train specifically for the distance. One of these days I'm going to back off of my mileage and increase the quality of my workouts specifically for this 10K, and see what happens. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Water, water, walk, wait for Dylan (son, 1:01) then Angel (wife, 1:30) to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of distance-specific training and the heat. Event comments: Great race, sixth straight year I've run this. Benefits the University of Louisiana's track team, always a good turnout, usually closer to 1,000 runners, which is great for this area. Coffee and Cliff bar for breakfast, drive to stadium. Porta-potti, warm-up jog around the stadium, porta-potti again. Head to the start to line up.
Jog around Cajun Field, probably < 1/2 mile.
