Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Since this is "My cup of Joe" and anything goes her is my rant... I just suffered through watching my beloved Seminoles loose to Maryland for the first time in their history! And now that Jeff Bowden has his hand picked quarterback in Wyatt Sexton there should be no excuses for the type of offense that occurred Saturday! Jeff Bowden is incapable of making adjustments to his game plan. I'll admitt it after the first two games this year I was of the opinion that the problem with the offense was Chris Rix, but now I'm convinced that it is Jeff Bowden's play calling and his inability to adjust and NOT Rix. In fact I think Rix has been hurt by Jeff Bowden. The problem is how do you fire the coaches son? And what happens in two years when either Weatherford or Lee, two of the top QB prosepects in the country, start? With Jeff Bowden callling the plays my beloved 'Noles will not challenge for the national championship! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Seminole's have never been the same since Mark Richt left for the head coaching job at Georgia. We stunk up the 1999 Orange Bowl and have crapped up every season since. Yesterday's game showed a complete inability to be flexible, to change up the game, and to move away from a strategy when it is clearly not working. Jeff Bowden basically has 2 plays in his book: 1) Hand off to the running back or (2) a 40 yard hail mary pass. There's no finesse, no creativity. FSU has, arguably, the best talent on the field, and I too put the entire blame upon the coaching staff for this miserable loss. Mickey Andrews is solely responsible for keeping FSU alive these last few years. What really stinks about all of this is that Miami also blew it. Had FSU won yesterday, we'd be in 4th place and still in contention for the National Title. Now, we're probably headed for some crappy bowl game. I'm bummed. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I can totally sympathize with you. I am a Clemson alum and we have another of the Bowden brothers. I really like Tommy as a coach, but like his father, he tends to be TOO loyal with assistant coaches. Tommy's brother-in-law is on our staff and he has coached 4 positions in 5 years and in every case the performance at those positions diminished after he started coaching them. I think he learned that from Daddy Bowden who has made a habit of not firing assistants even when it is necessary. Florida St has definitely lost a lot of their luster since Mark Richt left and Jeff took over. Maybe the Bowdens need to quit hiring relatives who are difficult to fire. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Boo FSU! LOL. Sorry, had to get that in there. Although I can't really talk about anything since the UF program has gone to !@#$ since Zook came in. Thank god he's on his way out. Unfortunately I head the news that Spurrier will not be returning =( I was really rooting for him to make a comeback... Looks like we might be getting Utah's Urban Meyer. I'm just looking forward to next year when we actually start winning games again. Miami and FSU watch out! =) |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeff Bowden & Chris Rix need to go! I'm an FSU grad & am tired of J Bowden's uninspired offense amongst incredible talent. Is there a website "FireJeffBowden.com?" Peter Edited by pkingfl 2004-11-10 10:55 PM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This thread continues with the amazing offensive performace last night against NC State. 140 yards total offense!!! The 'Noles had 9 offensive starter return from last years team. But even with that the offense is lack-luster at best. PKING is right this team is offensively talented...a servicable O line (including one ALL AMerican), two outstanding tail backs, three above average wideouts, and four quarterbacks, that's right four, that could play almost anywhere (Rix, Sexton, Weatherford, and Lee). The players aren't to blame here...it's the play calling. All I know is that Mark Richt wouldn't have sat on the ball with a 7 point lead in the third quarter. He would have gone for the jugular, tried to put two more scores on the board to ensure that it didn't come down to a last second drive for the tie. Thank God for Mickey and the defense, but at some time the O has to help out and score some points. Again I say FIRE JEFF BOWDEN p.s. The FSU Seminoles are last in the nation in 3rd down conversions! Dead last! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() DJP1812 - 2004-11-12 10:26 AM I AGREE! I attended FSU from 2000 - 2004. I HATE JEFF BOWDEN. I can't stand all the heat the qb's are taking at his expense. Please somebody start a website or petition. He must go. -Dominick Either that, or someone just steal his headphones and put them back on Bobby. Our season is now in the toilet, so its really too late now. I just hope and pray that the fans and papers in Tallahassee are giving Jeff as much crap as he deserves. I love rooting for the 'Noles, but it just drives me crazy when we go 1 for 20 on third down conversions in a game against a team like Maryland or NC State. FIRE JEFF BOWDEN NOW! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() From an article in my local sports page...The noles offense is averaging 26 points per game, and only 366 yards a game. No FSU team has averaged fewer than 32 points a game since 1981. That was also the last year that the 'Noles averaged less than 367 yards per game. Bobby's comment regarding these statistics..."I don't worry about it so much. All I'm interested in is wins and losses. We're 8-2" The reality is there is no way Bobby is going to fire his youngest son. And if the Noles win out and go 10-2, that assumes beating the Gators this saturday and then winning a bowl game, Bobby will deem the year a success. And while in terms of wins and losses he may be right, the damage may not be felt for years donw the road. This offense is going to loose us offensive recruits. Which will inturn hurt the program down the line. Can we all say Penn. State. Additionally, what Bobby is missing is that with the current talent we should be at worse 9-1. A poor offensive showing against a poor Maryland squad destroyed our chances of a National title. Bottom line, yes we are 8-2, but with the exception of Virginia all of those games have been offensive struggles. By the way 4 years ago with Richt as OC we averaged 42 points a game and 549 yards per game. Herbsteit called the FSU offense "pop warner", Corso said it was "The worst offense he has seen at the schoold in the past 50 years" Earlier in the year ESPN game day crew said the FSU offense was the worst offense of all of the ranked schools. Dark days are ahead of us 'Nole fans. I'm sure the Penn State faithful were only concerned with wins not too long ago. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lets see...8-3, with losses to Miami, Maryland and Florida. Lowest points per game since 1981, lowest yards per game since 1981, worst first down conversion percentage in the nation. 88 total yards in the first half against Florida (all of it passing yardage, 0 yards running), 24 russhing attempts (booker had 5, Washiongton had 8), 19th in the Ap poll and 17th in the coaches poll. For the last three years people have blamed our woes on poor quarterback play, dropped balls, poor kicking ect. That's all garbage! In the last three years we have played four different quarterbacks (Rix, Mcphearson, Macfadden, Sexton) and there is no change in offensive performance. Are we really saying that all of these highly recruited QB's are no good. It defies belief. It's coaching. And it starts with Jeff Bowden. The man is horrible. He needs to go. Mark my words Seminole nation we will loose our bowl game and end the year 8-4 and outside of the top 25! I watched the post game show on Sunshine network and even the FSU post game guys said maybe it was time for some coaching changes and maybe the OC should be looked at. Bobby Bowden's hiring of his youngest son as OC, and Jeff's role in that position have made my beloved Seminoles a lower tier football program. Remember 12 straight years in the top 5, those days are over. You will see it next year in the letters of intent and how many top notch players we loose to Florida and Miami. It's a downward spiral. And by the way, I am now of the opinion that Jeff Bowdens play calling lead to the demise of Chris Rix's career. I actually feel bad for the kid. I'm not even mad, I'm disgusted. It's time for the AD and the University pres. to step in and demand a change at OC. (Also wouldn't hurt to make wholesale changes of the offensive staff including Dickey and Haggins) |
