Pre-race routine:

Stayed at my parent's place (which is 5mins away from the race start) Woke up CALM. Had breakfast of Bana and Weetbix with no-fat Soy milk and a women's multi-vitamin. Put my hair into low pig tails for a change to try and keep the hair outta my eyes. Checked my transition gear for the fiftieth time. Rang EV's mum to get her out of bed and left for the race site.

Registered. Got me and EV great transition spots and got set up. Ran into another of our cousins Liz, and the three of us ran through what we were doing there and how to get in and out of transition and the "rules" BECAUSE EV and Liz were there and I took my time explaining what they needed to do, I became much calmer than I've ever been before because I it was like i KNEW this stuff!

Watched EV's swim leg.

Comments:

rather than get sucked into the panic of "JUST GO FAST" I calmed down and started breathing on the first stroke. just kept repeating the same mantra in my head when I'm in swim class and every 10-15 stroked I looked up. I doggie-paddled round the buoy though. STUPID! Shoulda just kept freestylin'!

I think I kicked someone in the head. If that person ever reads this... SORRY

Kept swimming until I hit the ramp, and then use the railings to propel myself outta the water faster than the woman beside me.
What would you do differently?:

NO DOGGIE PADDLE ROUND THE BUOY! but by far my best swim effort so far

Comments:

TIME IS INCLUDED WITH BIKE, but according to my watch: 2m46 with a 153 average heart rate.

I felt good, and excited cause it was my first race with TT bars! and my new wheels. Got into transition put my helmet on, gulped what I thought was Endura, but it was water. Threw down my goggles and cap and threw on my sunnies and and shoes. Liz came in just as I was unracking my bike so I must've done Okay.
What would you do differently?:

I should do more barefoot BITCHUMENT running for training.

WHAT A BLINDER OF RIDE!!!!!

This was AMAZING! I've never felt so fast... well... ever! I almost took a kid out on one of the flats because he suddenly veered right as I was overtaking him. I had to get into the right hand lane and back VERY quickly! I growled. but kept chanting a my mantra and watching my speed. "get to 40, get to 40..." and on the last sprint flat, I did.

Only ONE person overtook me on the ride. And that was the first of the 16-34 male enticers who were a few categories behind me. He didn't overtake me until the end of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing... How about "not nearly hitting young boys as they veer to the right suddenly for no reason" ARGH!
Transition 2

Included with run. HRM says: 184 1min 27
Drank ENDURA this time.

Comments:

I was struggling to keep my right leg moving without the jarring pain of the bruise on my right leg getting in the way. But I Ran OKAY. not brilliantly but OK. And I didn't hobble either. Tried run accross the finish line but there were people blocking our way because apparently the timing mats were malfuntioning. Spotted BF and my parents and EV and her dad and grandparents as I crossed the line.
What would you do differently?:

NOT fall off my bike 4 days out from race day. ^_^
Post race
Warm down:

Debriefed with EV and our families. Ate watermelon and got back to the finish line to see Liz come accross! YAY LIZ!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swimming ability. Kids who don't know the road rules. The dirty great bruise on my leg.

Event comments:

Okay, Maybe it's because I was competing with other members of my rather close but extended family and we had a lot of family members there as our cheersquad that I had a blast, But still this was a PB for me and I'll be back to do this one again in December. After all. I grew up in the Redlands. It's my HOME course I'd say!

Sounds like you had a great race, achieving a PB and placing 5th in the cycle is an exceptional effort, I can only dream of doing that well.

I love the Raby bay course, it's got a nice feel about it (except maybe the running on the bitumen bit).

Good luck at Bribie this weekend!!
