Run
Comments: My 4' 1" tall, 8 year old son, ran 26:43 for his first 5K!!!!! What can I say. I concentrated hard on running and got much better. I am happy with the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I still took it easy and that worked well. I am very happy with the time. (I know I'm not fast yet though). Transition 1
Comments: The transition was slow in camparison to others. I accidentally untied my shoes. Which caused me even more greif in T2. A lot of running with with bike was done on wet grass with a steep grade. What would you do differently?: Not forget to leave my shoes tied. Bike
Comments: Although my time does not demonstrate things well, I know I road this stronger than my first duathlon. I have never been good at hills even when I cycled 10 years ago. I have not climbed any hill in training. Also, since there were not any other events, I am sure this sprint event included some good athletes that usually do well in longer events. There were only 3 cyclists that broke 20mph and nobody broke 21mph. Also, there was a lot of running with the bike, and some of it on wet grass at steep angles. That reduced everyones bike times. I also looked up the rider's time that had the fastest time at Tyler's run. He did 22.45mph at Deer Creek (for 40K) and 20.9mph at Tyler's run. Clearly all were slowed at Tyler's run, so I am not too disappointed. What would you do differently?: Nothing. The result does not show my strength, but I know I did better than at Deer Creek. I was almost always above 22mph on the flats at this course. Transition 2
Comments: I had to tie my shoes after screwing up and untieing them in T1. This was very hard to do because of the cold. It was only 44 degrees when the race ended and 39 at the start. Run
Comments: My 4' 1" tall, 8 year old son, ran 26:43 for his first 5K!!!!! I don't think I drank enough up to this point. This was probably due to the cold. My legs were absolutely spent. I felt like I could barely move them. My wind was fine, but just could not get my legs going. The time really surprised me. I was sure my time was 28 or 29 minutes. Post race
Warm down: Nothing. Was in the car headed home 18 minutes after the finish. Event comments: This was a really orgainzed race on race day. Not much room though, and horrible communication before the race. Deer Creek was much nicer, but without all the wonderful volunteers Tyler's run had. Overall I was pleased. Family had fun too. These results also help me feel like just taking things easy and having more fun rather than take it very serious. Last updated: 2007-09-24 12:00 AM

I got up at 6:40AM (Race at 9:00AM). I ate one slice of bread and one banana. I drank about 12 ounces of orange juice and 12 ounces of water. Right before the race a ate one of those gooey packets.
I just bounced around a bit. Stretched and ran for about 1 minute.
