If I am in town I plan on being there, this will be my 2nd race so still kind of new (though if you visit this site on an regular basis, it makes you feel like you are a seasoned veteran :-) ). I believe I will have at least one 1st timer with me as well.

Is anyone going to get a chance to see the course early? I have heard that they have changed the bike course this year...

Does anyone have the new bike course mapped out with an elevation chart?

Hi all,
Per the above request. I have mapped out the route that HFP Racing has mapped out. I drove it in my car a couple of months ago when I was in Oxford. While I am not sure if the elevations are the correct. The placement in the course are very pretty accurate.

Hope this helps

I rode the bike course yesterday. There are some nice hills. Especially a killer at the end of the course.

DTraub - 2008-03-04 1:49 PM I finally committed and reigistered today. BT seems to have three listings for this race, but it looks like BT will have a good representation! THis was my very first tri last year and it was the perfect first race. It was a lot of fun and well done. FWIW, I will be driving to Oxford from Cincinnati the morning of the tri. Oh, and I'm an alum. I will definitely be hitting the Bagel/Deli shop after the race.
DTraub....How was your first tri? This will be my first and needless to say I am very anxious. My concern is the swim which is my weakest. When I registered and they asked for my time I told them just to put me at the end. My fear is I will get in the way of "real" swimmers. Bagel and Deli must be a popular place. Everytime I look at my daughters online bank transactions I see bagel and Deli a number of times.

This will be my first tri as well and I know exactly how you feel - except the opposite  leg of the race - the swim I can do with my eyes closed, but I'm scared of the bike.....I would hate to be in the way of "real cyclists" or do something unsafe b/c I don't know any better yet.  I  emailed the race administrator and she said the bike course was not a hilly as last year and then I read your latest post and now I'm a little worried...I am planning to go up next Sat. to have a look at the course.  Good luck to you!

jellomom, man I wish I had the confidence you do for the swim. The bike is almost a rectangle. There are a couple of sets of hills about half way through that may require a little extra. The one at the end looks tough, but the rest looks fairly peaceful. You will be fine on the bike. Good luck to you!

i just realized what a funny/stupid "newbie" mistake i made.....

when i registered for this, i entered my swim split in yards ( not meters)!  luckily I realized it in time and called to have it changed..otherwise, I would have been seeded about a minute and 10 seconds faster than I really am!  hopefully, this will be the last of my stupid mistakes and I have gotten it out my system prior to race day!!!

I actually think I entered a swim time in yards instead of meters too!  Oh well, last year I entered too slow of a time and had to pass people.  Lookslike this year people will be passing me!!  :-)  At least the lanes are nice and wide, so this is not too bad of an issue.

I'm in too. This is my 3rd triathlon but I'm very much a beginner (i.e. not very good). I did this triathlon last year and I echo the comments from the other posters about how good this triathlon is for a beginner and just overall. HFP and the MU students do a fantastic job.

I was just reading through some of last years race results. The race is less than a week and I am excited, yet anxious.

Ok - I went to check out the course last night and the last hill ( to me, brand new to biking, with my heavy hybrid bike) is very scary....I hate to think negatively, but I'm prettty sure I will have hop off and push....do people ever do that?  Will I be "booed" off the courseFrown ?  Any feedback you guys can give me is appreciated....i'm getting cold feet!

thanks!

Everyone supporting and participating in this race is very encouraging.  No one will boo you.  Everyone will be supportive.  This is a great race to start off the year!!

jellomom, I know what hill you are talking about. Just get up a good head of steam down the hil, put her in low gear and pedal. You will make it just fine!

Good luck this coming Saturday!

Jellomom,

Don't worry about getting off and pushing on the bike. I did this race last year and there were several people I saw who had to get off and push on the hills. Remember, this is a college tri, lots of first timers and college age athletes with heavy mountian bikes. Get out there, race your race and don't forget to have fun!

David
