Comments: Only my 2nd half. My goal was 2:10 with a push goal of 2:00. This course felt tougher than the RaceFest half I did in April. I walked MUCH less of this course than I did last time and still only shaved 5 mins. I started out running 2 miles then walking about 90 secs. About mile 7 that went in the tank. I think I pushed too hard up the long hill on Fairview and had to recover some. After that, I think I ended up walking at least 45 secs each mile with the slower miles being more like 90-120secs. When I made the turn onto Lexington for the final stretch I cranked it up. Unfortunately, this also happens to be a long steady uphill. My HR and resp rate must have been sky high This was my first long run without the Ipod. They've been "banned" from most races and I knew that I wouldn't be able to use one next year when I do the 2 half IM's, so I wanted to see how it would be. Definitely took more mental focus. I can zone out pretty good with the Ipod but this took a lot of effort to keep moving and keep my mind focused. What would you do differently?: Steal Keith or Jeff's legs for this race. If I took Kevin's somebody would know that I was cheating. :) Post race
Warm down: tried not to vomit! Got a couple of small subs and sat down for a few. What limited your ability to perform faster: Me and my clyde self! Event comments: Tough race but I enjoyed myself. Water stops were a predictable 2 miles apart, generally just before the mile markers which was nice. Made it easy to plan out my nutrition. Took gels at Miles 4 and 8 which worked out well. No side stitches and didn't feel like I ran out of fuel. My legs still need some additional base to improve my time further but I'm pretty happy with today's efforts Last updated: 2007-08-27 12:00 AM

Got up about 5am. Karen and I rushed around getting Maddie and Amanda up and ready. I had loaded all of the stuff in the car last night for the water stop decorations, so we jumped in and took off. Karen followed me over to the water stop sight, quick kisses for all, and then off to the Y. Found a parking spot easily, right behind the Y. I was stressing about time because it was 650 when I left the water stop and the race started at 740. No line for chip pick-up...OH YEAH!....then line for the bathroom. The y hadn't officially opened yet so the downstairs locker rooms with 2 sets of 4 stalls weren't open. So--about 1200 people trying to use the 2 separate bathrooms with one stall each. Nice!! This was probably my only complaint about the entire race.
Rushing around getting chip and bathroom. Found Gygy and hung out with her for a few. Debated on whether or not I was going to hang with a pace group. Finally decided that I'm a triathlete and we go it alone :)
