Pre-race routine:

Breakfast: Cereal and Protein Shake
Event warmup:

Stand in the cold for 2 hours pressed in like sardines and shivering!
Bike
  • 5h 47m 47s
  • 109 miles
  • 18.80 mile/hr
Comments:

I was having a lot of fun at the start. We were all cold and shivering and looking for a pace group. I got in with a group of guys that were really fast and didn't mind me tagging along. I pulled my fair share too though. We killed the first 45 miles in around 2.5 hours. I was having so much fun i forgot all about keeping hydrated and fueling. So the next 60 miles were full of battling cramps. The total race time includes the entire race. The ride time above only includes when the bike was moving.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention to my hydration at the start of the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around in a stupor. I eventually found the medalians and gleefully collected my silver. I really wanted that gold but right now I'm just glad to have finished as well as I did.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Proper fuel and liquids while having fun;)

Event comments:

I cannot believe how well organized this race was. 12,000 cyclists and their families and everything went off witout a hitch! Hey its Saturday night and they already have the results posted!

Awesome job Sterl!!!  Sorry you got cramps!! That's the bad thing about no aero bars.....you can't drink out of your aero bottle!  Glad you were able to finish, though, and you still had an awesome race time!! Nicely done!

OH SHOOT about the cramps!! You were moving out there though and 6:20 is a great overall time! I too find it hard to stay hydrated without my aero bottle in my face. It was a super fun race. You in again next year???

Dang! You were FLYING out there Sterling!  Was great to get to see you the night before. As fast as you were moving, there was no way we were going to meet up during the race.

Hope those aches and pains get to feeling better soon!
