Comments: The water was incredibly choppy that everytime I tried to take a breath I came up into a wave. Four times in a row I got hammered and I was struggling to stay afloat. I needed to get AIR. I needed to cough up att that liquid. I got rescued. I coughed up on his board and got my breath back. He offered to take me back into shore but I needed to finish! So I Let go and went off again. I heard the lifeguards ha What would you do differently?: I don't know. The chop was really bad. It's not like ocean swimming where you can feel the waves and breath when you feel a lull or you're at the top of it. With my prep there's not much I could have changed. Transition 1
Comments: I wanted to spew and cry at the same time here. Thank god there was a water station as we were coming out of the water. The transition area is sandy and I ran in my cleats. BIG MISTAKE - My shoes would not clip in! What would you do differently?: Learn the flying leap. Bike
Comments: Despite the fact I was refluxing pretty bad at this stage after my rescue in the water. I still managed a pretty good average speed along the flats here. Between 36 and 38kph. However I didn't overtake anyone in my age group. That really dissappointed me. Got stuck behind a kid aroung a u turn roundabout. 3 people passed me and I lost precious time. What is it with me and kids on the bike leg?? What would you do differently?: Avoid children on bikes! Transition 2
Comments: I couldn't unclip!!! The damn sand had fised me into my pedal!!!! It took three goes to unclip each side., The woman in the transition spot next to me REALLY pissed me off. Her bike was all the way over in my spot and her gear had managed to find its way into my side too. So I kicked her crap away and angily racked my bike. threw my What would you do differently?: Not run in sand. Get an official to politely move someone encroaching into a "numbered transition" spot Run
Comments: I was dead exhausted by this stage and was still refluxing. I was not having a good time at all. I could barely jog in a shuffle and my legs felt like lead. I was dizzy but I needed to finish. One of my firends who was in the team event passed me at the 1.5 km mark. Yup. I was doing terribly!!! What would you do differently?: Less shuffle more boogie!! Post race
Warm down: MASSAGE. My shoulders and back were killing me. The massage tent had accupressure therepy so I took it. DAMN it hurt but I felt better afterward. What limited your ability to perform faster: The chop. The unfamiliarity with the course, lack of information, Event comments: Well I achieved two goals - A top ten finish and a top 5 bike ride! Too bad there were only 8 people in my damn age group! ^_^ I didn't really enjoy myself here though. Well I'll suck it up and do better next time!!! Last updated: 2007-10-14 12:00 AM

Got up at 4am. had vegimite on toast and had two bananas in the car on the hour long trip there. Got to the event and checked in. I couldn't understand the wave information. From the list it looked as though the short courses were going last and the longcoursers first. I just didn't get it. Online it said the first wave of the short course was happening around 6:45...
There were numbered racks and I set mine up - ON TOP OF AN ANTS NEST. The woman setting up next to me was encroacing on my space a bit too - So I didn't have much room.
I then tried to run through transition and PANICKED when I couldn't find the bike entry. I just couldn't find it! I also realised that I forgot to pack a swim cap.
So when i found a swim cap, I mozied on down to the beach with BF.
It was WINDY and FREEZING - I tried to warm up but it was so cold out of the water my FINGERS turned blue!
