View Member's Race Log View other race reports
Flower Mound, Texas
United States
Tri4Life
70F / 21C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 55m 7s
Overall Rank = 69/93
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 8/13
Pre-race routine:

water, milk w/raisin bran, partial odwalla & little yogurt no less than 1.5 h prior
nerves cause dry heaving but no actual vomiting
ate hammer gel 20 minutes before race start
wanted to concentrate harder on set up, but I guess I thought it would be more complicated than it was
had a hard time answering simple questions I was so friggin' nervous
Event warmup:

jog in place, stretching
hyperventilating---j/k i know that doesn't count...does it?
Swim
  • 09m 49s
  • 350 yards
  • 02m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

SWIM WAS LAST (reverse sprint)
was just fine getting in, until the staffer said "GO!"
had to flip over for 2 separate 25's 'cause breathing was outta control
freestyle was definitely easier than anything else though

What would you do differently?:

could've pushed harder I think, but pushing causes panic a little, maybe I'm afraid to go fast?
Transition 1
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

RUN TO BIKE
put on shoes THEN got on bike, as I'm just not to that level yet
feelin' good, then dropped sunglasses but didn't seem to matter much
What would you do differently?:

learn the "shoes-already-on-the-bike" trick
Bike
  • 1h 09m 28s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 13.39 mile/hr
Comments:

again, possible fear of going fast?
at hammer gel 2 mi from bike finish
damp road, did see one girl that fell on a turn
What would you do differently?:

push myself harder, add another water bottle even if it is cool weather
don't let people pass me! (only one really did)
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

BIKE TO SWIM
I wish I had it on film, I think I looked like a tri-god for just a few seconds with my dismount
stripped everything off fine
had earplugs in trisuit pocket (handy) grabbed cap & goggles donned on the way to pool
What would you do differently?:

find some means of taming the mane, having to deal with RE-pony-tailing is irritating
Run
  • 33m 13s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 10m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

longest damned 1.5 mile on the way back after turn around
talking to people takes my mind off the fact that I'm running I relax some
felt pretty good overall
What would you do differently?:

take a handy bottle of water to sip
do some more run-specific TRAINING
fear of going fast again mostly likely that I don't want to spend it all (the run was first this time, so I guess that's logical)
but there's something in there along the lines of "speed-up-but-not-too-fast-don't-want-to-exert-and-hurt" just confuses my body
Post race
Warm down:

walk around a lot
at first cross of finish had small trouble breathing for almost 1 minute, but it passed
didn't vomit, although I didn't want to eat anything for a while

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my mind
could've trained a bit more in week & half prior but was difficult travelling, etc. (holidays you know)

Event comments:

they gave away a truck (with key drawing)
i wish they'd had a massage tent
the only other tent besides Tri4Life Tent was an antioxidant drink thing
local event, and since it's my first one, no frame of reference for what else there may be

Hi,

I was online looking around the other day & noticed this race on the calendar for November this year.  I called the pool to verify the date & they said the company didn't show up last year.  I didn't read anything in your report about that.  I was wondering if you noticed anything last year.  They said they do not know if there is a triathlon scheduled at their pool b/c they haven't heard from tri4life.

are you planning on doing this again & have you spoken to anyone?

thanks for your time
