Pre-race routine:

Ate cliff bar. Left Ann Arbor at 7AM, and drank a large coffee in route. Meet Trixie roughly 20 minutes before her race. A TRIMMED down Gary showed up shortly after. Trixie's 5K was at 9AM, while Gary and I weren't scheduled to run until 11:30. So we had LOTS of time inbetween to chat!

Learned a slew of exercise/ stretch moves...like the scrunching(?) catapillar! =)

Gary and Trixie took plenty of pics...
Event warmup:

Ran roughly 1.5 miles, 25 minutes before race. Took a honey gel.

Comments:

My goal was sub 7 minute averages. Accomplished that! A GREAT feeling.

My worries about starting slow were a non-issue! I got out of the blocks FAST! I felt good for the first 2 miles then my energy level began dropping and breathing became difficult. Legs started getting heavy near the end. If the race had been 4 miles...I'd been in trouble!
What would you do differently?:

Start more near the front! First 1/3 of a mile I was zig-zagging all around trying to pass runners.

Post race
Warm down:

I "dropped" from exhaustion after finishing, also had a queasy stomach. I wished I had brought my inhaler (have athletically induced asthma) as I had troubles catching my breath.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Train more (duh!).

Event comments:

After race Gary, Trixie and I waited to see if Gary or I medalled. After a 15 minute wait, results were posted. Sheet said I finished 4th! Top 3 in each division got medals...doh!

HOWEVER. I get home and see on the website that I finshed 3rd?! Huh? Only thing I can think of is that the Iron Turkey participants (they did both the 5K and 10K) were mixed in with regular the 5K. I will need to investigate! It would be soooo cool if I medalled!

After race we all went to the Cottage Inn (in Dexter) for sandwiches. Talked a bunch (lol - Trixie's one crazy girl!). =)

Performance: Good
Not positive, but believe at mile 2 my time was 12:30.
Course: Positioned myself with Gary in the front 1/3 before the start. First 1/4 mile was gravel/dirt before we hit the trail which led us into the woods. Saw Trixie at mile 2! Course was a circle with a few rolling hills. Had a hair-pin turn on an incline that took us into the closing straight-away.
