The 37.8 is a mistake. That's actually the km/h number. It's still over 23 mph which is still moving.

It looks like there are several "first timers" that are very fast.

I'll be lucky if I don't end up walking before the end...

The same guy averaged 22 MPH at IMFL last year so maybe the course was a little short, but that wouldn't explain all the 29 MPH bunch.  Maybe Postal was in the area at the time.

BTW, I thought I had a little bit of a mean streak in me, I think my wife just beat me. She wants me to contact Triathlon Magazine and ask them to do a front page story on this fast first timer.

Well that's good news! I'll admit I believed it, and I've been freaked out about only averaging 18 mph on my zone one training rides! I was having a hard time grasping how I would make the leap...not to mention the fact that I was afraid of being run over by somebody going that fast if I beat them out of the water. :-( Thanks. I'll sleep better tonight!!

I am staying at the Seascape. For a one bedroom upgrade, I am paying $334 (includes tax) for 2 nights. My unit has a queen bed, a queen pullout sofa, and 2 bunk beds. While this doesn't fall in the budget category I chose this property because each unit has a kitchen. For me the benefit of making some of my meals and snacks versus completely being dependent on restaurants is worth it. Each unit is privately owned so if you plan to stay at this property spend some time reviewing each unit online. The quality of furnishings and upkeep varies per unit.

I had no idea there are so many Texans looking at this site. I wanted to do the Galveston tri this year, but my husband bought Spurs tickets instead. So I'm going to do a run in San Antonio that weekend. Make sure to tell us how you do!

For those interested in staying in a hotel for this race, a search for hotels in Galveston on www.hotels.com gives several hotels within a few miles of Moody Gardens. Some of the hotels are also in Texas City which is about 15 miles away, and I suspect the hotels there are a little less expensive.

As the race approaches maybe we should designate a place for the BTers to meet up after the race. The tri center where I train is setting up a booth, which might be a good central place. Any other suggestions would be great. :-)

This race is two months from today!
