I was drilling using TI techniques yesterday at my neighborhood pool. I swim there regularly in the evenings with the masters group but I had the opportunity to join my hubby for a morning swim. So I did.

The moring life guard stops and asks me after I’ve completed a few laps of drills, “Are you doing the same thing as your husband?” I said, “Oh yeah, Total Immersion drills, it’s great!” He goes… “ I’ve heard of that….. It’s for teaching old people how to swim, nice and slow”. I glared at him for a moment, trying to register his point. This guy is about in his late 20’s. I was stunned, so all I could say was, “well, I am 47 years old and can out swim you anyday of the week”. I turned and swam to the other side of the pool. He obviously didn’t know what he was talking about, but what an idiot! My hubby said that the life guard was probably just jealous on how fluid and graceful I was in the pool. Gosh I love my husband.

Well, I never knew that 25 was old, because I plan to start doing the T1 drills soon. I'll take better swimming technique any way I can get it.

That's where you swim to the farthest corner of the pool from him and proceed to pretend to drown. When he finally gets to you, stand up and say "What took you so long, slowpoke? Are you doing the TI drills too?"

The dipwad is probably swimming 100meter sprints with a stroke count of 30, churning up the water.

Never mind him: nice and slow means more reserve for the rest of the event.

Dyslexics of the world untie!

I am 29 years old, and I started doing TI drills 5 months ago. Ever since I had managed to shave 20 seconds of my 100 yards time to 1:20 not to mention my stroke count... So I guess I fall in the category of old people learning how to swim nice and slow, right?

Scuba, your suggestion is seriously funny! kepola, I'd pay real money if you did and said what Scuba suggested. Real money.

What really floors me is that it was the lifeguard who said it. Aren't fitness professionals supposed to support and encourage those of us out there trying our best, not ridiculing us? Geesh.
