I've done 10 min today ... post-run. Mostly just held a downward dog for a long time because it felt good on my back, really loosened up my shoulders. ;-)

Breezy - 2008-01-02 8:37 PM I got in 30 mins on Jan 1 and plan another 30 tonight. Doing downward dog, plank, and similar ball-o-foot poses one-footed due to a foot injury. Had to do the same thing last year when I broke a toe. Keeps it interesting.

wow your shoulders must be uber strong! doing my first sweaty yoga tomorrow. wish me luck

Oooh sweaty yoga ... Yoga for Athletes gets me hot, too! I'm incorrigible, I know. How come nobody pledged tantric yoga? All right, all right, I'll stop.

Unfortunately I'm stopped on sweaty yoga or any other for a week, per doc's instrux. Got a slipped cervical disk, although I'm in great shape, healing well, and should be good to go late next week.

In the meantime, saph, enjoy it for me!

I did flexibility sequence from Spinnerval Flexible Warrior yesterday and today...so I'm up to 70 minutes. My legs and hips always feel so much better when I'm done.

I know it by heart practically and got to fast forward. I'm writing it all down so I can do it on my own as I don't need the instruction any more which sucks up time.

As much as I want to do harder stuff I've been sore a lot from what I thought was harder Yoga but still sore after just strength so need to do easy more flexibility stuff so no sweaty Yoga for me for now.

Since I'm such a beginner (only been to 3 classes), *all* yoga is sweaty yoga for me.

Hitting a class tonight, looking forward to it!

Have fun at your class, Keith! Put in some good sweat for the team.

Saph--I do 1-2x/week. I'd like to make 2 a habit. And yes, only at the classes--it would be a crime not to go, it being literally down the street and free for me. Kim doesn't teach every class, but the instructors are phenomenal and it's a lot like getting one-on-one coaching.

Oh no, Yanti! Definitely listen to your doctor's advice to be sure and let everything heal properly! I ended up having spinal fusion surgery back in April to remove 2 herniated cervical discs which were replaced with bone and then I was bolted all back together. Believe me, that was NO fun!

*Gentle hugs*

I'll be getting in my first yoga practice for the challenge tomorrow morning. I'm really looking forward to it since it's been a while since I've made it to class.

Just got back from my 90 minute class.  Wow, was very demanding, definitely not a slow relaxing session, LOL.

Awesome, though.  Besides being a good workout, I can tell yoga "loosens" things up for me -- mainly physically, but also emotionally, if that makes any sense.

definitely with you on the emotional aspect of it kr. that is why i started it in the first place. i suffer from depression/anxiety and needed something to sort my crappy head out. yoga seems to be helping one of my main issues is struggling to get out of bed in the morning, and when i get a job that could be a problem - it has been in the past.  i am hoping that my ten minutes each am weekdays will help solve that issue.

the sweaty yoga is more for toning up my core, as i hope to feel stronger/more toned/more flexible once is atrt to ramp my distances up.

also - for those who use yoga for an emotional break/tune up - do you struggle to concentrate? my mind wanders badly! any tips? but no i don't want to get into weird chants in a language i don't understand

I TRY to concentrate on what I'm doing when I do yoga...but I often can't take myself seriously enough to block out all other thoughts, so my mind wanders a lot too. Can't help with any solutions, but at least you're not alone, Sapph!

I did 25 minutes of a dvd on Jan 1.  I forgot the exact name of it, I did it more to get my body used to the different positions and the stretching.  My back felt better right after I finished my short season.

Off to a 90 minute vinyasa class...six days after my knee surgery. SO looking forward to it. I will just adapt what poses I need to.

I am using the Flexible Warrior 1.0 dvd and I like the power sequence out of the three on the dvd. I think I get a better stretch out of it and it really makes me work hard. Two days in a row so far. If I can manage four days a week I will be happy.

I'm 3 for 3 for doing Yoga. I did the medium class with Katie today for 75 minutes. For a change I did Yoga first not after something like strength training so it was easier not on tired legs.

She puts together quite a few sequences that  I enjoy and really does a great job of integrating breathing with movements. So first time through she says exhale and we do xxx, inhale we do yyy, we go all the way through. She repeats the excellant directions 2-3 times we do it together and last time we do it on our own and pick one pose we can hold 4 breaths.

What amazes me is for example simple child's pose, when I start my Yoga often my butt isn't on my feet but my the end of a session it is. I can reach the floor so much better and have gained flexibility that I can tell. I do looseners before I run and strength train and in doing simple things I'm like wow my leg moves forward so much easier and higher.
