  • Comments: This was my first big race and half marathon. I really wasn't experienced or prepared for all of the little things involved. The only thing I can think of that I did right was taking the Dart rail from Plano to downtown. I would have been stressed sitting in traffic to get to parking. Overall, this was a good race and things were run well. Improvement needs to be made on the event shirt pickup (45min wait after I had my bib) and I was disappointed with the post-race food.

  • Comments: The conditions were better last year, but I really liked the new course. If not for the wind, it would have been a smoking fast course. I loved the race last year, but this year was even better. Finisher's shirts are way better than the finisher's visors they gave out last year, and we even got "WR training" tech shirts at packet pickup. I'm all about the swag.

  • Comments: This was just too big of a race. I love bigger races, but this one seemed to lack some organization because of it, especially at the start and finish lines. The course is fun, with bands, and such, and is really beautiful. But the sheer number of people almost ruined it for me. I may come back some day, but I will just know what to expect next time.

  • Comments: I really can't say enough about this race. From the organization to the volunteers they really know how to do it right. Well placed and staffed aid stations. Great course marking and guides. Even finishers shirts. Can't wait to do it again next year!

  • Comments: This was my first White Rock event as a participant. Everything was run very well with lots of volunteers. I really liked the port-o-potties at the finish line. A great touch that I found especially useful (TMI, I know).

  • Comments: Hey Race Directors, I just burned a couple thousand calories on your course. Do you think maybe your post-race food could come in something larger than Auschwitz helpings? I'm friggin' starving over here. I got as much food in one nachos helping from the Dallas Athletes tent as I did from any 4 booths I visited in the AAC.

  • Comments: Well, coming into this, all I could compare my expectations to was the Disney 1/2 I did in January. I ran a 3:27 then, and today 2:40. Not fast, but a 47minute PR. Im estatic about that. I was glad that everyone else had PR days too. I now know what its like to be in the front of the BOP, instead of back of BOP. Ok, maybe middle of. This training stuff reall works!

  • Comments: Despite the weather, it was awesome! he post race food was gone when we got there, which was bad considering there were a whole lot of people on the course. The course itself was great. Well marked with tons of volunteers, but the logistics at the AAC were a bit confusing. Can't wait to do it again next year!

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too easy

  • Comments: The post race was a mess. There was no way to get to Victory Park without being forced to go through the AAC. There were also no signs indicating this fact. Just some police officers blocking off the shortcut gate that I think was supposed to be open. A bit more organization in this area would have helped.

  • Comments: I was really happy with my pace. When I started training last summer, my goal was to run a 9 minute mile pace. That would put me at the finish just under two hours. My best training run was 8:05/mile pace, so I wanted to be around that pace coming into the race. All things considered, I'm very happy with my race ... especially since this was my first half marathon.

  • Comments: I've done the White Rock Marathon a couple of times before, and it's always been really well organized, with lots of people to point you towards the start line, lots of people to cheer and hand out water, etc. However, another runner told me that this year they were having trouble recruiting people given the cold snap that had hit the previous week. It sure did seem like it, I saw maybe 3 volunteers around the start line, and about 10 at the finish. Either way, I'm just glad some people showed up, given how cold it was!

  • Comments: I had a great time this weekend. I got to spend time with my sister that I do not see very often. Both my sister and my wife finished the marathon; I am so proud of them both. I got to meet Aaron (JeepFleeb) and Haley (TriComet). I think tmwelshy was with them as well, but we were all headed in different directions after the race and I only had a minute to chat with Aaron. There were a lot of munchies after the event and a good band. A lot of the food was wiped out by the time some of the full marathoners had finished which did not seem right. For a race with 10,000 participants through a big city, there were precious few spectators. A really, really low number. The course through some of the residential neighborhoods was fun with the neighbors out cheering us on. My favorite was the table in front of one house with several boxes of Krispy Kream doughnuts and the sign "Give up now - get a free doughnut."

  • Comments: Had a nice time of it - nice wake up call for the Mary in February. I could have easily gone another several miles, but I don't know about another 13... I need to start mixing in some long runs... the vermouth to my martini, so to speak...

  • Comments: I need a gimmick. I don't think running all my races in a diaper will work so maybe a Texas flag or something. Find a gimmick. I am quite suprised at the way I handled myself. 6 months ago or a year ago I would have not quit. I would have walked in severe pain as much as I could. And when I would have quit, I would have been ashamed and angry. I now know what I can do, am proud of my acomplishments, and I stopped because of an injury and not because I wasn't motivated or didn't want to push myself. I'm ok with that. Next time, I just won't start.
