  • Comments: This was a good challenge to test myself on. Since I did this race for social reasons more than the race itself, I only wish I could have spent time with folks after the race. I would have liked to cheer Lisa & Kara in. (Probably would have missed Brian anyway since I was still dying over in the grass when he probably crossed.) Next time I need to plan on staying the night in the town so that I dont' have to run off to get home for work the next day...

  • Comments: There is a great deal of reflecting to do with regard to this race. It's very unusual for me to be disappointed with my bike and thrilled with my swim and run. However, for a season finale, I can't ask for more than turning in my best performance of the year in my two weaker disciplines. In almost every race, I get to the run and allow myself to settle - it's been a pattern that I haven't been able to break. My body hurts, I'm tired and I succumb to the temptation of easing off and coasting to the end. I have never been able to force myself to push like I did in this race. It took all year, but I found a new place on Sunday and learned what I am capable of doing mentally. I don't think I was great physically in this race - the bike ride bore that out. However, I was able to focus my run and push through discomfort and pain like never before. I really hope I can carry this lesson and momentum into next season. My swim finally came together ten minutes into the last race of the

  • Comments: This was my fourth race of this distance, and my third time at Silverman. While I still have tons to learn about this sport, I finally feel like I know what I'm doing. It feels good to know that after 3 years of being a triathlete, I'm continuing to improve and achieve my goals. Looking forward to next year!

  • Comments: I didn't eat at the race, but there was a buffet with tons of food, drinks beer, refreshmetns, beer, free massage, beer. This is one of the best organized races with some of the best swag, a pasta dinner Friday night, pancake breakfast Saturday am, great food after the race and an awards banquet on Sunday moring with lots of food, No free beer at the awards banquet though.

  • Comments: Yes, I am a little disapointed that I can't figure out this distance. And had pacing problems ONCE AGAIN. And yes, turned in one of my worst (if not THE worst HIM times ever for me). Which is weird, because I was feeling fast and strong before the race. But overall? I had a great time! The bike was just so much fun and I love this course. I love the challange of doing these kind of distances. Just a lot of fun... Sad to say, my streak of a Silverman podium ends at 3!!! Not lucky enough to get one this year. Side note: Met up with the AZ BTers for a pasta lunch the day before. REALLY good time meeting them. ALSO! Special shout out to my friends from far away with good wishes for me. The support was great and needed! Thanks. NOTE TO SELF: Lose some weight, get a bit more fit, pace the bike, and fine tune nutrition just a bit more.

  • Comments: This is a tough course but is a first class race. It is extraordinarily well organized. Frank Lowery the RD does an excellent job. The activities, expo, meals, pre-race, post-race, aid stations, swag, etc. are great. The gripes I had in the changing tents are volunteer related and out of his control. He could have used a few more in there but can you really complain about a race that has 2 volunteers for every racer? He is obviously a sadist! You will understand what I mean after you race this course! But this is a race that any serious triathlete should do at least once in his/her career. This course really shows you what you are made of.

  • Comments: This is clearly a premier event and anyone that is thinking of signing up should do so without any second thoughts. Be ready, it certainly isn't an easy one! Top notch volunteers and course support! Also, this is the second race that I have used the www.myathletegps.com gear and my family LOVES it!!! instead of waiting for me to slowly make my way around, they sat at Cheesecake factory and watched until I was back to their next cheering spot! I used it at IMWI and they watched from across the country and felt closer to the event than seeing some numbers posted along the way. I would strongly recommend anyone looking at using this type of tracking to take a shot at it... it is a great product!

  • Comments: I have to admit, I was pretty disapointed with my results. I was sort of sulking about it the entire next day and skipped the awards ceremony. Why go? I also even had thoughts of giving up 'racing'. I thought that maybe I would do the events, but just take it easy and enjoy the race more. Why push SO hard, go through SO much pain, for crappy results? I was so disapointed with not hitting my 6 hour goal. I know it was lofty, but achievable. I took a little consolation knowing that I improved my Silverman half time by about an hour from two years ago and also set a HIM PR by 34 minutes, but not much. Now the interesting part. Several people congratulated my on my "1st" place. I was like "huh? Impossible". Well I checked my results and sure enough, squeeked out a first place! I was, and still am, shocked. That guy that I passed with less than 0.2 miles to go? Was leading my division. I got him by 44 seconds. My run ended up being tops in my division, and I made up more

  • Comments: This is just an awesome race and I hope to be back next year. Overall, this day was a success. It was an extremely humbling experience. I am disappointed that I caused so many problems for myself, but I am also somewhat proud that I was able to keep going, pull myself out of some really dark places, and finish as best I could. I have a pretty bad temper and frustrate easily, but instead of pitching my bike into the desert, I calmly handled the problem and continued. During the run, there were so many times I just wanted to stop and walk, but I didn't allow myself to. I knew I would not forgive myself for giving up. I still managed to cut around 20 minutes off last year's time. I'm looking forward to a few weeks off (NO SBR) and then easing back into half marathon training.

  • Comments: I am in for this race again next year as I am completely disappointed with my times. However this was my first HIM and I learned alot. I will make lots of changes for CA HIM for sure. I love this event and after watching it for the last 3 years, I was so happy to finally be a participant. The course is challenging and Frank makes sure to add a little extra challenge with the weather every year (I'm not sure how he does that). This race has me hooked. I will be back again next year to break 6:00 hours. By the way, there are no better volunteers in the world than those who support this race. They stood in the rain, cold, wind and downright downpour yesterday to support this event. They are nothing short of awesome and really make this event worth coming back for.

  • Comments: Fantastic race. Ran well, organized, great swag, great food, and just a great feel. I even got to stand in the water with Chris McCormack (saw him once more on the bike). He won my age group, I almost had him though :) This is not however an easy course. Hills, hills and wind every year. It was a great challenge and I am glad I did it.

  • Comments: This was a great race. The course was very tough but alot of fun. There were a ton of volunteers and aid stations and the swag was the best I've seen - a real backpack loaded with cool usable stuff (goggles, a sling bag, nalgene bottles, water bottles, a blanket, etc.). I've been telling Julia this all fall. As long as I enjoy the training and racing I'll keep it up. It's been a great fall and the race was Amazing. I'm definately looking forward to next season.

  • Comments: I have to say that this was an INCREDIBLE race in terms of volunteers, swag, expo, aid stations. When they said aid stations every 10 on the bike and every mile on the run I figured every 10-15 on the bike, but it was more like every 5-10 and every mile on the run- was more like AT LEAST one aid station every mile. The volunteers were GREAT! The staff was great, everyone was friendly, helpful and glad to have us there! The swag bags were NICE backpacks (like REAL backpacks, not the little sling packs) and were LOADED with goodies including goggles, a sling bag, nalgene bottles, and more. BEST race organization that I've experienced!

  • Comments: I say it was too hard but that was what I liked about it, I'm glad the wind picked up or it would have been too easy. :) This is by far the most organized race of any kind I've attended. Volunteer ratio was like 3 vols to 1 athlete. I skipped several of the bike water stations and skipped half of the run buffets as well, so yeah, I guess there was pleanty of liquid and food on the course.

  • Comments: Such a great race. It hurt like hell during the event, even to to point that I was telling myself that I was never going to to it again to do an IM. But two days later, and I'm just beaming about completing it. Telling a couple friends and they were in awe. I'm ready for next year!!!!
