  • Comments: This was my first triathlon at any distance. As such, it was a wonderful and challenging experience. Many lessons were learned and will be applied in the future. I have nothing to compare against, but was very happy with the volunteers and the help they provided. I would most certainly do this race again.

  • Comments: The race was well put together, tons of support everywhere. All aid stations were over staff and it had all that I need it. It really made a huge difference on my experience to have so many familiar faces out there.

  • Comments: I wanted a challenging race and I got it. This was a fantastic race. WTC always puts on an amazing race and they didn't disappoint. The post race food was good, although I hardly ate any of it. The whole race experience was amazing and would recommend this to anyone looking to challenge themselves at the 70.3 distance.

  • Comments: I began to feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment in the hours after this race. Tough course, tough conditions, wasn't quite fully prepared. However, I really feel like I gutted this race out, as I did a lot of my races this year. Sometimes it's not about the fast time, it's about the scenery and the experience. Next year I'm going to take on Ironman Florida, and I will try to be more focused on knocking my IM PR down by quite a bit. Silverman was an amazing venue, very challenging, but I would recommend it all day long. The swim venue is one of the most beautiful you will find, and the first 40 miles of the bike were just breath taking. Good race.

  • Comments: So there you have it. Solidly back of the pack in my first World Championship...whatever. I set out with a goal this year and accomplished it. Period. The World Championship was not part of that. Right now, as I type this, I'm not sure what the goal for next year is. I seem to do better at Olympic distance with my solid swim bike combo and suffer at HIM with my crap "run". So I may concentrate on Olympic distance next year with Age Group Nats and Chicago ITU as my big races. Race calendar is already laid out for next year. I just don't know if I'll accept a slot at Mt Tremblant should I happen to qualify. I need to see how the next 6 months goes and how far along my run comes. Up next is a whole lot of nothing serious. Gonna do some open water races, a small tri in Catalina and a few running races over the next six months. Absolutely nothing serious till Wildflower next year. I need to judiciously shorten the season. As it stands now, it's too much. I'll keep up the blog with all

  • Comments: It was a world championship experience through and through. Thursday's wedding with my dear friends was an amazing way to start this race weekend and totally took the focus off of being squirrely. :) Not having any big pressure goals on myself also paved the way to a great race. I just felt SO MUCH BETTER physically, mentally and emotionally than Steelhead, including the night before the race. The new nutrition protocol worked perfectly and gives me hope of a good day in IMAZ with regards to my gut. (yes, I know IM is a whole different game than HIM!) As always, sharing the day and adventure with my friends is HUGE. I loved getting everyone from MI together for dinner before the race, flying with my teammates and rooming with my former teammate Tyla who lives in TX now, meeting EN teammates Teri and Annie before the race and sharing a hug, being able to yell my head off for Dan when he got his AG award. I feel so lucky that my body does what I want it to most days, that I

  • Comments: It's the World Championship and I was just glad to be part of it. Within 10 miles of the bike leg, I knew I wasn't racing anymore as I am normally a top 15-20% cyclist but couldn't make any gains there in this race. My run is usually pretty good also, but couldn't even run it as i was already cramping before the bike even ended. Earned that finisher medal and glad to say that I qualified for and finished a World Championship! I rated this race a "4" while I normally would rate it a "5" because my new standard was the Cebu Ironman Philippines 70.3 in terms of race production!

  • Comments: I have to say that it really was a great experience coming to Las Vegas and doing this race. I don't think I would do it on a regular basis, due to the amount of time and expense it takes. However, I would absolutely recommend it as a "must do" race for anyone that qualifies. You get more of a special event than a typical IM 70.3 and they really try to make everything about the race very nice. I enjoyed the pre-race banquet and the post-race dinner / cocktail hour by the pool. It was also a huge opportunity to race with some of the fastest triathletes at this distance, as well as a deep pro field. Interestingly, at the post race cocktail hour we spoke with Bevan Docherty's son for 10-15 minutes, and then Bevan himself came over and hung out for a bit. Overall, a great experience and i'm definitely glad I decided to race.

  • Comments: This race was spectacular… and after spending some time contemplating if I'm even cut out for this I realized that I need to earn my way back there and give it another shot… faster and stronger. This course will test you. It is supposed to.

  • Comments: I hadn't planned on racing Vegas but was very happy to have gotten a roll down spot the month before in Boulder. I think I was mentally checked out and even though I trained well I don't think I was mentally prepared to race hard. I went in thinking I just want to have a good finish and I'm glad to be here. And it showed in my AVG HR numbers which were about 7-10 beats lower than Boulder. Linda and I arrived in Vegas Thursday evening and met up with my sister and her husband at the MGM for dinner. Didn't get back to our hotel until 3:00AM.. whoops Already off to a good start. Spent most of Friday putting the bike together and getting my transition bags ready. Drove the course with my team and kinda zoned out while my coach was talking about the course. Not sure what I was thinking but I don't think I was that into the race. I kept telling myself that I'd rally as the race loomed closer. On Saturday, I got up late. I figured the sleep would do me good and I headed out

  • Comments: This was my fourth IM brand race, and being a World Championship and all that, this one had more production than the others. Overall things were well organized, however being one of last waves to go, some of the aid stations were running out of ice. Not good in that kind of heat. I don't know if it was by chance, but most aid stations had a garden hose and nozzle set up to spray people down. That was a life-saver for me.

  • Comments: This was the f-ing World Championships, and I managed to finish within the top 200, so I shouldn't really be disappointed. However, I feel that I underperformed on the swim and bike, leaving several minutes on the course. Even though I never really felt hot, I know that the heat did effect me quite a lot, slowing me from my goal paces. Looking back at the overall race, it was a very challenging course, and probably the hardest race I've done to date. Will I do it next year? Well, my goal for next year is getting to Kona. I plan to attempt to qualify at two races: Eagleman (which will be very hot and I'd probably have to finish in the top 3 in my AG) and Tremblant (probably have to be top 6 in my AG). With two transition spots, there really wasn't an ideal location to stay at for this race. We found a hotel in between the two transition areas in Henderson that worked out well. It was easy to get to both locations, and close enough to Vegas that we were able to get in to a buffet

  • Comments: In all, for the first year for this race in LLV it was pretty good. I think they still have some logistical stuff to work out. Cars on the course in the park is a nightmare. Pre-Race registration lacked a bit. Clearwater was way more organized. Transition was a mess in T1 if you ask me. The goofy switch back was not necessary. Overall a fair course. You needed to be prepared and strong on this day. Show up with out the proper race prep and it would have been a really long day out there.

  • Comments: Organization was good, but there multi-site ascpect kind of sucks. The Lowes is the guest hotel and is where they have the dinner, banquets and awards. The Ravella, where I stayed is where the swim start and T1 are. There is still about a mile between the two. So after body marking and setup I could go back to my room, which was nice. But T2 and the finish line are about 15miles away. As well, registration was at T2. So you had to get there to register and get back after the race. There were shuttles (too few) to get back and nothing to get there. This was the only negative part of the organization

  • Comments: One hell of a course that could be changed dramatically by the weather conditions. The bike aid stations great, but I feel the run stations could have been better stocked. I know I was in the last wave, but that puts us in the group that would be in the harder conditions of the day. I was only offered an energy gel once during the run and only one of the aid stations had ice.

  • Comments: Having raced Clearwater in 2008, I think WTC has done a great job moving this to the new venue. The new course is much more challenging and scenic and the Lake Las Vegas area and Loews host hotle where we stayed was very nice. The course and conditions really suit me as well and I would like to come back and do this again, I didn't feel that way aboput Clearwater.

  • Comments: I had a blast. It was my first triathlon, so everything was new and exciting. All the competitors were nice and helpful. Special thanks to Dave Flournoy who helped keep me calm before the race. Very nice of him to notice a very scared racer, he took me under his wing and calmed me down and gave great encourgement!

  • Comments: This was a well-run and very scenic race. What made it better was racing with all my friends. How cool to know that our group all made it across the finish line. Congratulations to Brian, Lisa, Robin, Kara, and long distance Will. Everyone had challenges to overcome but we all finished! I even managed to finish first Clydesdale.
