  • Comments: this was really put together well for a first time event of this distance w/this many competitors as were registered > the packet p/up was organized w/o any incidents > plenty of booths w/anything that one might need > had a band playing > my only thoughts would be to find a way to route the run course off of the gravel sand, etc volunteers were fantastic! very enthusiastic and always yelling and cheering > some had their "young kids" out helping which is always a treat for me to see and have yelling for you > the lapped bike course and run course were an added perk > the run course had many, many spectators lined along the w/way which is really kewl!!!

  • Comments: Big race for me. I liked a lot about it. I wish they would have had more food (pretzels, power bars, etc) at the aid stations - just water, gatoraide, and gel gets old after a number of hours. The run route was too complicated and windy. Bike route was great. Parking and spectator plans could have been better.

  • Comments: Only 30 athletes in my age group have official results out of the 64 that registered. Not sure what the deal is there. All my finishing times are figured from a finishers Photo with the official time and the numbers I got from the Ironman live website the day of the race. The race was a fun event but has some lessons to learn from the first year. It wasn't as accesible as most would hope. I'll probably do it again next year if time allows, hopefully they make the neccesary changes and the weather cooperates. The courses were nice and there was good volunteer support. *Edit* As of a week and a half after the race I was able to contact the timing folks and recieve official time splits from the race. Now at least I'm not guessing at my finish time. They did note that I was disqualified for failing to stop at a penalty tent.

  • Comments: For a first time event, it was run reasonably well. I would give it about a B. But this was an Ironman branded event, with the high price tag that goes with it, and for that, I expected the organization to be flawless, and it was far from flawless.

  • Comments: First year race = first year problems. Please don't let that deter you from coming back again. I could mention the problems but I won't bore you! The positives outweight the negatives. I will probably do this race again. I could have raced much harded than I did but I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. I made this the funnest race that I have done so far simply by slowing down and enjoying myself. I must admit I was slightly dissapointed with some of my times. I know what I'm capable of and I know one of these days I will put it all together and reach my potential!

  • Comments: Had an absolute blast. I have to send out big thank you to firstnet911 mutri and Jazz82482 for their total support that they gave me leading up to the race. I heart my BT friends! You guys rock! I am a HALF IRONMAN!! wooooohoooooooooooo!! (Technically only a 68.3 half ironman) but I'll take it! :)

  • Comments: I give this race a 4. Pros: -PLENTY of volunteers -PLENTY of drinks/gels -COLD drinks -Nice finisher shirts and medals -lots of port-o-potties -Good crowd support on the run Cons: -No shuttles to the Iron Cross which were promised -No cleaning of the transition area or full covering with mats to protect participants' feet -Second bike aid station was a little further out than probably necessary -No wet suit strippers -No clocks or people announcing time ANYWHERE -Race was called on account of weather All of the cons are probably standard first-run bugs that can be easily corrected for next year's event. I go round and round in my head about the race cancellation but I can't blame the RD for it. Not in America. We went to dinner Sunday night with a guy from New Zealand and he was telling us about the second marathon he ever ran continuing through a hail storm. He said they just simply don't have the same mentality that we do in America

  • Comments: The aid station workers were awesome! I thanked every one of them very graciously. They were well staffed and didn't run out of anything that I saw. They were handing out COLD drinks which was great! Plus, the sponges rocked. Organization for getting people out to the iron cross fell thru. A couple parts of the run course were confusing on where to go and there were no volunteers. Parking was bad and the guy directing traffic was giving out incorrect info - telling people to park way far away and there was a path to the transition - there wasn't. So where I could have parked around a half mile away I was over a mile away. There weren't many vendors there for spectators - I don't know if there were any food vendors? All post-race activities were CANCELLED because a few drops of rain fell. It was sunny before I ever got out of the park. I was extremely impressed by the athletes, aid station workers, and spectators. The run was unbelievably fun . . . did I just say

  • Comments: I thought this race was very well run due to the circumstances. If the storm would have stayed away it would have been awesome to stick around and watch others finish. If I was closer to this race next year I might possibly do it but I don't plan to travel to it again as the weather there this time of the year can be very sketchy. But I am now a HALF-IRONMAN!! Which full to do now :)

  • Comments: The race was run really well. The course is extremely challenging, but very rewarding. The town was supportive and accommodating, even if they thought we were all nuts. Camping was the best idea ever! If you do this race, you cannot practice on hills and wind enough.

  • Comments: This was the first year for the event so I guess i should cut them some slack, but to me, it seemed like the event was not as organized as some i have been to in the past. Being a Iroman branded event, i guess i was expecting it to better that others. In actuality, it was the same, or in some cases worse than other events i have been to. The directions to the expo were horrible (it wasnt even on the same street as the directions indicated) The swim course may have been long, the run course changed 3 or 4 times, and it ended up being very confusing. (I saw a guy do his 2 loops and no volunteer was there to direct him into the finish chute so he kept running.. we had to direct him back to the finish line) From what i have heard, there werent enough aid stations, but i have no first hand knowledge of it. They cant do anything about the weather, but it is unfortunate that the race was cancelled early. I feel really bad for those people out on the course I have faith that they will

  • Comments: Overall a great race. Super venue, great camping and super people. We're already talking about doing this next year with a larger group. Special congratulation to Amy- great job on her first HIM on a tough course. Pictures are up here. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/photos/photo-thumbnail...

  • Comments: For the first year of this race I feel like I should give them some slack. But they ran out of shirts and water bottles at registration. They called the race because of 'weather,' which I'm sure is a really hard decision for a race director to make. I would probably do the race again; hopefully they've gotten the kinks worked out from the first year.

  • Comments: There was plently of activities and a great expo before the race. The navy seals were awesome. The swim was beautiful, and the bike was challenging. The run was spectator friendly. I just wish that there was something published that stated "we will stop the race under X circumstances." I felt then and still feel now that it was a VERY soft call. Overall, had weather not been a factor, this race would have been rated a little higher on my scale. There was a lot of thought and organization that went into this. I may be back in future years.

  • Comments: 1) A IM series race needs wet suit stripper's. 2) The bike leg didn't have enough drink stations. My aero bottle (sportsa drink) was empty a good 15 minutes before the 1st two drink stations. My seat bottles are for nutrition and water. The run portion was perfect. 3) The weather spoiled the post race events.

  • Comments: Overall I would say this was a good FIRST TIME event for Ironman 70.3. The course was wicked. The run course snafu was not the RD's fault. There were plenty of volunteers and plenty of water stops and support. Normal hiccups for a first time event I think. This being my first Ironman "branded" event didn't really leave me thinking they are much better organizers than the independent directors. They had more blow-up toys than the indie races (gatoraid bottle and finish and transition shoots). Besides that nothing really stood out at it being anything more than just another race venue. Would I do this race again? Maybe...if they changed the run course. They also needed more food vendors at the finish. I ended up having to drive to a restaurant to get food. Most every race I've attended has had goodie-bags at the finish with some sort of food for athletes. Not to mention they had no cold beverages at the finish line. Just a stack of warm water bottles and warm gatoraid.

  • Comments: I loved the race. The hills were great training for Louisville, but I was really nervous on the downhills. I heard one guy had a really bad accident and had to be air-lifted out. The bike course also seemed extemely crowded with bikes going in each direction on a two-lane road with no shoulders. I LOVED the run course. A lot of it was on crushed rock, so it was easier on my legs... but at times it was a little too "off-road". Running through all the camps sites was really cool. It's a great course to bring your family to if you like camping... especially for watching the run.

  • Comments: I crossed and one of the chip-takers said it was 1:15 on the nose. The missus said a couple minutes later that it was 1:17. I left at 7:06 a.m. and finished at 1:15 p.m. That, to me, says 6:09. I would've knocked it out in 6:25-6:30. Not happy. I refuse to rate this race. The course and volunteers were frickin' awesome. The organization, water-stop setup on the bike (and run for that matter) was less than stellar. And I thought the decision to pull the plug because of some dark clouds was a bit premature. Really, I have nobody to blame but myself. If I would've finished in 5:30 I would've finished. AS it were, my 6:30ish wasn't good enough. Good to see all the BTers in the hizzy. Great to meet a lot of you for the first time and see a lot of you again!!!
