  • Comments: Overall I think that the race was much improved from last year. The rerouting of the bike course to miss much of Central Avenue was a blessing. There were still some pretty rough areas, and you can't help but have pot holes and other impediments once you get into the urban area of any race, but at least we didn't have too much to contend with for the first 45 miles or so. The run course still had the same goofy loop into a parking lot for about 100 meters or so. Last year I thought that it was just a last minute thing to make the distance, but I guess its part of the course. Just doesn't make sense to me... you've got an entire city to plan a run course and you can't get an extra block somewhere along the way? The parking lot thing is just pretty hack in my opinion... I mean come on this is a WTC Ironman event... not a local church group 5K. Two other things that kind of irk me as well... the post race food situation for one. I mentioned the chocolate milk thing... that was

  • Comments: I don't know that I would do this race again. I did not like the point to point aspect. I also did not like the swim bike or run courses. overall I felt like the course sucked, but it might have also been because I was not really ready to race.

  • Comments: ROADS: A lot has been said about the road course and the conditions of the streets. I was ahead of most of the pack, and didn't see the graveyard of equipment and tires that others behind me saw. There were definitely some questionable areas, and I got a bit nervous for my rims, but the Boyd wheels held up fine. Having the mountain bike background certainly seemed to help.

  • Comments: This is a great race. It is well-run (as are most WTC races). I am not a fan of having two transition sites, but they aren't too far apart which makes it nice for pre-race activities and spectating.

  • Comments: The last 10 miles of the bike were super shit, the lake was crap, but the race was still fun. Just needs a bit of work. I think it's totally unacceptable to let people swim in a lake at which the bacteria level was over 500 all week long leading up to the race, and the day before it went down to the acceptable level of 7? I say BS!

  • Comments: Having two transitions to set up was a bit of a pain. The busing for spectators made it difficult for them to watch the race as well. The course was nice, minus the last 8 miles of the bike. The volunteers were great and there were a lot of them. Overall I think it was well run and a pretty good race.

  • Comments: Point to point transition was tough to set up by I knew what I was in for. Lake was not as bad as everyone that was complaining. 10 miles of Central Ave should not be in a race. Overall, well run race that I enjoyed and I really enjoyed Providence when I wasn't racing. Two tired thumbs up.

  • Comments: Overall this was a good event. It was well managed, with a few exceptions, and the volunteers were fantastic. I did have a couple of issues though: 1) The decision to swim at Lincoln Woods. I'm sure this was because of the sponsor (Amica), since their HQ is in Lincoln, RI but damn. Really? a lake swim in "the Ocean State"? Not to mention in a lake that is locally referred to as "Goose Poop Pond". 2) There were multiple changes to the course that were not even mentioned during the race briefings. The three things I noticed were a change to the swim wave times (not a huge deal 5 minutes for me), three turns on the bike course (basically adding a block of about 1.5 miles), and a little jaunt into a parking lot on the run adding about 200 meters. I'm sure that the latter two changes were needed to adjust things for the proper distance, but at least tell your athletes about it. 3) The decision to have us ride over that God-forsaken stretch of Central Avenue. It was horrible. 4)

  • Comments: Not a bad race. The point to point was much more convient than two years ago, when you had an hours drive to Naragansett. It was a nice little weekend vacation for us. My wife wants to do the race in two years.

  • Comments: I wasn't really trained well enough for a course this tough at this distance. The race itself wasn't insanely hard, I just wasn't ready for it. Had a great first 4-5 hrs, but after that I had nothing left. Very well run race.

  • Comments: Unbelievable crowd support and volunteer support. Lots of people cheering on us "walking dead," no matter we were sucking wind bad. There were even people in the chute offering high-fives, which was astounding to me...it gave me a little more belief in humanity. I managed all of DNS, DNF, and DFL, but I didn't manage the last two by much. Humbling and frustrating for sure. I'll be back. :)

  • Comments: It's actually a good race except there are three drawbacks that would enter my decision making process. 1) Logistically a PITA. It's a fun point to point but you have to do some running around before and after the race. 2) Last few miles of the bike course really sucks. 3) The run has a couple spots that just aren't that great where your running through a tiny walkway ramp zig zagging. I just didn't like it that much. Other than that, it was good.

  • Comments: This was my first 70.3 and I wanted to break 6:30 and was happy to do that. Disappointed in my swim because I have swam the distance much faster. I was happy on the bike, 17.5 MPH is much better then any of my training rides. Running is my best of the three so I wish I could've done a better job there. You never know how hard something is until you do it. I pushed my self to the limit and it hurt like hell but I'm happy I did. I appreciate all who participated and feel blessed to have finished.

  • Comments: Although everything was AMAZINGLY organized, I'd say the course wasn't all that beautiful. The roads were a bit too potholey for my liking, and certain parts of the course were just plain UGLY (e.g. biking through the pothole-ridden warehouse section of Providence). The run as well had sections of it that were very industrial. Maybe it's my bias as a wildlife biologist but damn it, I want beauty and nature!! Maybe that's why I signed up to do my first iron-distance triathlon in one of the most scenic parts of the world: the South Island of New Zealand. Challenge Wanaka Jan 15 2011, here I come!!

  • Comments: I learned a lot. I held back a bit on the bike in the beginning (hydrating and screwing around with food – should have just dropped the hammer. Then I had some problems with grabbing nutrition and stuff when I needed it later. I dropped my Electrolytes around mile 20, managed to get two in – but I had them in a bag with my jelly beans and hit a bump and they all went flying – I actually laughed when it happened. I had just passed a girl on the hills and she yelled up “no, it’s ok I have my own jelly beans, but thanks!” Right about mile 25 I was starting to kick it in and move. Then I started to drink the Perform stuff and I started to get this stomach cramp. Anyway, I didn’t realize what It was and kept taking the stuff at the next station. By the time I got to Providence I had cramping in my stomach and my quads and I had to pee. I stopped with the Perform stuff and switched to water. Second loop I felt better and picked up the pace. Next race, I will have an Aero

  • Comments: Race started late because bouys for swim were blown off in the wind. The only lacking of volunteers seemed to be water safety on the swim. The race pakets came out late, only a week and a half before. Roads on the bike course were bad, but thats Rhode Island roads. Last 4 miles were really bad.

  • Comments: This was my second year doing this race. Very happy with how things went and am thrilled at a 45 minute PR over my 2008 race. Check in on Friday and taking your bike with you on Sunday is the way to go with this race. Saves you a lot of BS. We will be back next year!

  • Comments: This is only my second HIM, and the first was 3 years ago when, quite honestly, I still had no idea what this whole triathlon thing was about. I mean, I'm STILL learning. I've got a few good ideas heading into Timberman, and even though this was going to be my A race for 2009, that has changed with my crash at Montclair and the foot problems. My wounds have healed and the T6s have solved the foot problem, so now I've got 6 weeks to get ready for the real A race.

  • Comments: this was My Perfect Race. I dropped over two hours from my finish at Savageman ! everything just went so damn well --- the flight, the hotel, the race itself. I am thrilled with my times and I am beyond thrilled with my bike. I can't believe I kept under a 2:00/ 100 with that swim. I had a good HM and a spectacular finish. best part of the race - the volunteers. they were awesome and they were EVERYWHERE. .... onward and upward to ironman training !
