  • Comments: I stuck around the finish line, said thanks to Leanda and shook hands with the Lucas and Matias who came in right after me. I didn’t know where I had finished, but Deanne said she thought I was fourth. Results weren’t going to be posted for a long time, but I got a free massage while waiting and then we decided to pack up my bike, head back to the hotel, shower, and come back to the race site to check the results. When we got back, results had been posted and I was 4th! I couldn’t be happier with my race. I swam, biked, and run up at a level that I feel represents my current fitness, and it’s hard to complain about that. This race is a HUGE confidence boost heading into IMLP—to PB on a course by 7 minutes is a testament that work works. Bring on the big training for IM!

  • Comments: Good race! I beat last years time by 15:03 so I'm stoked. My power on the bike was awesome and the run was tough, but managed to hold on and finish strong. This race is lots of fun for me. I get to start in one of the first waves, so actually finish early and get to watch everyone else come in. The swag was really sweet this year - love the duffle bag. Weather was absolutely perfect.

  • Comments: A great challenging olympic course. According to the race director there were 2600 registered athletes. Quite the turn out. My race was great, my wife went off in one of the last waves, and unfortunately some of the water stations had start ti run out of either gatorade or water.

  • Comments: Was just really disappointed in my time overall. I could think of a dozen reasons for this: heat, nutrition, taking a couple weeks off training for medical reasons, travel, my focus being more on Eagleman this year, etc, etc. But this was my first race where I felt like I took a step backwards. I guess I just need to be putting more into this if I want to keep improving. Total time: 2010: 2:44:26 2011: 2:45:26 As always, a fantastic event. I had a good time visiting old friends even though my performance was disappointing.

  • Comments: Another year and another Columbia Tri in the books. Being pretty close to home it's hard to pass up. I dropped 9 minutes from last year so I am very happy with that. Not sure if I can pull that off again next year, but that would have me breaking 2:20 :) We will see!

  • Comments: TriColumbia always put on a really well organised great race. Great swag bag as well this year. This is a challenging course and one that I find extremely difficult to pace. After three goes at it I'm still learning but sadly this is going to be my last Columbia Triathlon, probably ever. I am going to miss my annual trip to Centennial Park in May.

  • Comments: This is really a great race. It brings out the best competition in the area. The F50-54 AG winner had a time of 2:30:27 (22 min swim, 20.5 mph bike, 8:10 min/mile run). One woman had a 7:19 min/mile pace The swim in Centennial Lake is the biggest negative. It's just kind of murky and yucky. The bike course was great!! Run course really good too. Loved the massage at the end. This race also has great swag (should given the registration fee) - great duffle, visor, bottle, shirt, food stuffs. I love the duffle. It is my very own tri-bag now!! I was using my daughter's old swim bag (it had her name on it). Now I am legit!

  • Comments: This is a race that I hope to come back to every year. Fantastic organization. Tough course that brings out a really strong AG field. There's a good reason that it has been going strong for almost 30 years now.

  • Comments: Great race. Well run event. The course is challenging but not unrealistically so. You just need to be prepared for it (which I wasn't).

  • Comments: My second Columbia race. This one was to exorcise the demons of last year (puncture on bike, helmet trouble - see last's years race report). My objective was to place in the Top30 of the M40-44 AG and I did that. So I'm pleased. But in hindisght I think I made a tactical mistake in going too hard in the swim and then being unfocussed for a lot of the bike leg. My lack of road racing pedigree really continues to hurt me as I just don't know how hard to push myself and what I'm capable off. Perhaps I'm not capable of going faster : I'm just not sure at the moment. But overall I'm pleased with this performance - I've been training hard since the New Year and it is paying off. This course is really tough, but probably plays to my strengths as a lighter racer. CTA generally put on a great race. Nothing flash but just a well-run, well-supported regional triathlon. Two gripes : (i) Swim buoy markings didn't work. Either you do the same as the Nation's Tri and mark them

  • Comments: Just really happy with this performance on the whole. Surprised myself on both swim and bike legs, and did just what I wanted to on the run. My last Olympic tri time was 3:06 (on a shorter and easier course), and my overall goal this time was to get under 3 hours, which I decimated. Race was perfectly run (as all TriColumbia events seem to be).

  • Comments: The most important part for me was to just show up - I race for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, so just being on the course was important to me. Too much cancer in my life, and I love being part of Team Fight. It was also a great life lesson in accepting the body I have, and not the one I'd planned to race with. I may be injured, but I know how lucky I am to be as healthy as I am, so this was something I needed to do, however "well" I was able to compete.

  • Comments: A really fun race. I was very relaxed going in to this race, because I had just finished my first half iron - so after training for the half iron distance - this was "just an olympic" - whoa, never thought I'd say that! It's also wonderful to be an early wave for once - - I am usually the very last wave and hate it - so this was a chance to see a race from a whole new perspective. I actually had to wait for others to finish instead of coming to the finish line and finding everything closed up and carted away. It was a beautiful day too, which made it all that much nicer.

  • Comments: This is a fantastic event. Not a race to set a PR on, since the bike and run are so tough, but it's a real test, and there's never a chance of getting bored. The race organization is outstanding. I can see why people keep coming back year after year. The volunteers were excellent, and the spectators surprisingly plentiful. The course is not easy, but it's also rather scenic. The one thing that I missed was more information on the run. It shouldn't be too difficult to provide clear mile markers, and I wouldn't mind if there were race clocks at intermediate points (I know that we all have fancy wrist gadgetry ... but some of us can't read those without our glasses, and the mental arithmetic would help the miles to go by).
