  • Comments: When I first put my money down on this race and I saw the $475 charge, I was not too happy but after my experience. I must say it was worth it!! There were other things that I thought they were scamming on but the race was definitely well put together and the volunteers were the best!! The town was great and had a lot of neat places to eat!! The only complaint I would have is the hotels jacking up the rates!! I stayed in the same hotel as a friend of mine did the year before for the race and this year it was $40 more per night. At least they messed up and did not charge me the five night minimum so I only stayed there 3 nights. Then headed up to Montana to visit Glacier National Park!!

  • Comments: We got about 6 hours sleep before I woke up a bit stiff but mostly hungry! We had a great breakfast at the hotel which included lots of congratulations cause I was wearing my blue finisher shirt :) Got my pictures, headed over and bought some finisher gear, saw a few more friends and picked up my special needs bags before hitting the Finisher's Banquet. It was pretty fun but it was pretty focused on the AgeGroup and Pro winners. I did get to see my camp coaches Paul Huddle and Roch Frey which was fun! Dinner at the hotel and the manager bought us dessert so Siani, Preston and I shared a kids sized celebratory Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream Sundae - Yummy!!!! Tuesday we packed up and Preston drove us back to Portland where I've been relaxing, resting, stretching and now going stir-crazy as I reflect on the total blast I had in Coeur d'Alene. These last few days people have asked me "What's Next?" and the answer is I don't know. But I do know that I loved the Ironman. I loved the people

  • Comments: I love this race. Coeur d'Alene is a great town and incredible area. Each time I've been there I felt like this is how life should be. If you have the chance you should check it out. I rarely saw any BTers this year. I saw Bryan the last few miles of the bike and then somewhere on the first lap of the run. He was looking great as I managed to look at him through one eye as I was feeling terrible. I also saw Doug a few times on the run. After I saw him the first time I kept waiting for him to pass me but that wasn't to be this year. I'm sure he will have plenty of chances to blow by me in the future. I saw Bonnie during my last mile being Bonnie - she was jogging along talking to somone at the side of the road telling him anyone can do it if they set their mind to it. I'm in awe of her attitude and wish I could have stayed to see her finish. How cool was it when she got a standing ovation at the athlete dinner? I missed my goal by 20 minutes but still beat my last year's

  • Comments: For as much as I think "ironman" is a bunch of hype (ala the overpriced merchandise) and they may be the best case study in marketing/branding history, they (or NA Sports rather) truly executes in creating a top notch race. The venue and volunteers are both awesome. They do everything perfectly (except maybe not have enough mechanics on the course) to make the day about the athletes and their individual stories. Bottom line, what really makes the race great for me is sharing it with a close group of friends. On this day our group of six, endured mutiple flat tires, a destroyed tire, and a broken seat post clamp to bring all 6 of us to the finish line. You can't choose what happens to you out there, but you can choose your attitude. Watching each group member overcoming obstacles, whether mechanical or not, and forge ahead is priceless and in the true spirit of ironman.

  • Comments: I may not ever do another full Ironman and here is why... I am not sure that with my knees they way they are I would ever be able to actually run the marathon. I didn't race the Ironman...I survived it. I really like racing. So maybe I do Olympic Distance and Half Iron for a while and see how that goes. Also, I love the training but I stopped doing the other things I love doing (Racquetball, Squash, Ultimate Frisbee) during training so that I would not get injured. I don't think I want to commit to that anymore. And one other thing. According to the race stats my swim was worst compared to the field and my run was the best. In my mind, however, I felt proudest of my swim and least proud of my run/walk. I want to race at a distance where my mind matches my performance. What would I accomplish by doing another Ironman? Maybe I trim an hour off my time? I would rather, at this point, push myself to go under 5h30 for a half and be able to say that I went hard from start

  • Comments: This race was AWESOME!! The course was great! The crowd and community support was great! And the volunteers were just phenominal. I tried to thank as many as I could and told them we couldn't do it without them. Ironically enough, they thanked me in return for racing. The community really embraces this race! The second Ironman was just as special as the second. Despite having a smaller crew cheering us on, the five people I did this race with are just amazing and really make the journey that much more special. Last year after IMLP, I said I wasn't doing another Ironman. At mile 21, I was in so much pain, I told myself I was not doing another Ironman. On Monday, I was ready to sign up for another Ironman.

  • Comments: GREAT RACE!!!! Well, for a 50 Yard Freestyler in College who hated to run and thought Ironman races were for the insanse. . . I am proud to say that I did it. I Truly believe that anyone can do this, if they have the heart, mind and spirit for it. It takes time in the saddle, time in the pool and time in the running shoes, but in the end it is all worth it. A special thanks to my Wife Amy, My Dad and My Aunt and Uncle. They did a great job of supporting me.

  • Comments: I really can't say enough good things about this race. CdA is a great town! The volunteers were absolutely fantastic - I tried to thank as many as possible along the way. NAS does a great job. I really want to do this race again, but it will probaly be sold out before I have my 2008 schedule figured out. Wow! Wow! Wow! What an experience!

  • Comments: All in all I can not complain. I took one hour and 15 minutes off my time from last year on a tougher course and tough conditions. All in all a great day. Doing the race in my hometown made for huge cheering sections all over the course. Totally cool. I tie-dyed my jersey yellow and my family friends did the same with t-shirts. Nineteen in all. Had one guy on the run tell me that he knew I was coming up behind him becuase of the cheering. Most important part of the day was doing the last two blocks with my dad. 3 year cancer survivor and he came down the finish chute with me. There as not a dry eye in the house, including me. Unbelievably cool. For the freak in all of us.....I went to bed late after the race because I stayed down there to see others finish. I fell asleep figuring out how I could get another hour out of my time!! Is that freaky??

  • Comments: The people of CDA are so wonderful. I saw many of the same people sitting or standing and cheering for hours. This town can't be beat. I signed up again after a few days spent thinking about what I could have done better. I'm confident I could do a 13 something which would be knocking two hours off my time. I was only down about 3-4 pounds from the weigh-in. The weather was cooler throughout the race but I think I hydrated more then I lost and that accounted for the frequent bathroom stops.

  • Comments: Amazing amount of effort by the local community in supporting this event. Locals stood all day in the heat chearing on even folks like me who finished well behind most of the participants. That really helped. Corporate sponsorship was great (Ford).

  • Comments: IMNA puts on a great event. I really enjoyed meeting some very cool BT'ers. Althouhg I did not have the race I wanted I would have not problem doing this race again. In fact, I'm already signed up for 2007.

  • Comments: Absolutely fantastic. The crowds were unbelievable and the volunteers so great. Coeur d’Alene can be very proud that they put on such a great event. Would love to come back one day. I am so proud of myself and of Phil and Kate. It was a tough day for everyone out there and we truly showed what we were made of. The journey was long and at times very difficult, but it was all worth it. We are so lucky to have so many people that came to share this event with us. I would like to also congratulate everyone, especially the BT’ers who made something special happen out there on race day

  • Comments: I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff, so check back often for updates :-) The people and volunteers of Coeur d'Alene were incredible. I honestly can't say enough about them- they made the race for me. Every time I would thank someone for doing something for me, they would say something like "No, thank you for doing this/coming here/inspiring/etc us". It was truly a pleasure to do my first IM surrounded by such wonderful people. That being said, the heat was a huge factor for me. I had a mental goal of somewhere between 12:30 and 13:00. I could not have prepared any better and I honestly think if the temp was down and I didn't spend 45 minutes in the restroom/getting wetsuit stripped I would have made it. I couldn't be happier with my performance. I made the best of the hand I was dealt and finished strong. They don't call it the "IronMan" for nothing, and if it wasn't this tough it wouldn't be worth what it is.

  • Comments: This was a perfectly organized and managed race. The officials, volunteers, and all other people involved with gettting if off smoothly were awesome. I highly recommend this race to anyone! Today I can actually walk normally and go down stairs with out using the railing. Thanks for taking the time to read my race report. I hope that it offers some help, guidance, or encouragement to someone.
