  • Comments: Last time I did this it was a run bike run due to chop in the LI Sound. Happy to do the regular race this time - good course and well managed. This was my first and only tri this year due to my knee injury and related lack of training in the run. It was fun and exhilarating and enough to remind me to train hard this off season and get back on track. Happy with my result. To work on: My transitions were pretty weak - out of practice mostly, but had several simple delays with shoes. Also, need a new race belt. Will need more brick training - I felt like I couldn't kick into any other gear on the run - a good steady pace, but nothing left for a kick or push. On the bike, need to practice hills on the Shiv. My flats were fast and I was passing people, but climbs were slow.

  • Comments: Very nice venue and great volunteers. Post race food/drink was lousy - water and dry bagels. Awards took forever. HOWEVER - I must compliment the race management on quickly reacting to the conditions and putting on a organized, enjoyable race. I would have enjoyed the swim, but I completely understand their decision.

  • Comments: Overall, good race considering I did the New Haven 20K Monday and haven't been training the swim and bike much. It was fun to get out there and sort of reinvigorated me. After the marathon I will be more amped up to hit those bike and swim intervals this winter I think.

  • Comments: Great race to learn how to be a triathlete. Variety of experience levels are present. Good vibe from the participants. Great organization and course layout. The Madison Jaycess take their event seriously. The proceeds/revenue go to a great cause.

  • Comments: A nice touch at this race was the announcer calling out your name and hometown as you crossed the finish line. It made me feel pretty cool. Also there were a ton on volunteers out on the course, both bike and run, holding back traffic, waving flags, and encouraging racers. Very well done. There were some real competitors here today, the winner was 1h 4m 19s, setting several course records. Some of the bikes in transition and on the course were the type most people only see in magazines. So I suppose what this boils down to is that I am proud of my 53/371, there was a higher level of competition here today than I have seen to date. This was the last race of what I feel was a successful first season for me. I am chomping at the bit to get into a tough off season of speed work and up the distances for next year's races. Hoping for one HIM and at least one Olympic distance, as well as going back to Ellington and Tolland and trying to blow myself the hell up and win an age grou

  • Comments: I now realize duo's aren't nrealy as good for my style as are tri's. Since my strong suits are biking followed by swimming and I'm a lousy runner, I'm not set up to do well in the duo format. Race results at: http://www.plattsys.com/results/res2008/madtri.htm

  • Comments: I love the venue. 20 years ago, they had a team "relay" there which included a canoe segment out to and around the island along with the three triathlon disciplines. It brought back good memories of those.

  • Comments: The only thing I didn't like is the run out, the run back, and the bike in, all converge together for a quarter of a mile.
