  • Comments: My first triathlon a decade ago, short and very hard if done right. Nice small town local feel. Would have liked to qualify for nationals again, and with 32 peeps in the field missed it by that last guy, since they "round up." ah well.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: Ended 8/43 AG, but the snafu in T1 didn't cost me from qualifying. I would have had to go 4+ minutes faster to do that. I am happy with the result given my fitness, weight, and the lesson learned, and the result is appropriate I think. It does give me some motivation to come back and see if I can improve my running to be more on par with the leaders. Problem is even though I age up next year, the same guys do too :)

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: Great local race that is very safe and well run, and good for swimmers :) Ended up 5th, better than 7th last year, and better than the 1st through 7th or so I've been as a clydesdale here. Grateful to have gone from being clyde competitive to AG competitive. The kicker is that other than Male 16-19 I would have been on the podium in every other male AG, including a first place. Them's the breaks kid. As for going sub 50, last year 43 folks went sub 50 (and guess who was 44???). This year only 14. So slower course this year.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: Was scheduled to do this race last year but skipped due to injury. Glad I got a chance to do it since it's such a great little local race. Was shooting for low 50s and finished at 54:48, so not quite. But happy nonetheless. Was good enough for 7th and considering some of the competition in AG that's not too bad. Good early season practice race. Gives me a chance to evaluate weaknesses.

  • Comments: Fun race, my first in 2005, raced or volunteered every race since it started. Happy with the placing. Last year my clyde time would have put me on the AG podium, but all depends on who shows up!

  • Comments: Fun little race. Glad it's in my hometown. Two things I was stoked about were the 7:XX run split and that I would have been 3d in my real AG. That would have been a first. Next year....

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too easy

  • Comments: I did this race to "get back in the water" so to speak because of my last place and poor performance on the swim/run in the Encinatas tri. I know it was short compared to most sprint tris but I was mostly interested and making it through the swim, by swimming and not just breast stroking the majority of it. I also wanted to run the whole 2 miles and not be in last place. I did enter as an Athena instead of age group, but there were a lot of very fit and fast Athenas out there. My recovery was good, so I always feel like I could have pushed it a little more.

  • Comments: I really like this race. It is put on by a local PE teacher who is an Iron Man triathlete as well. It is super beginner friendly with plenty of seasoned competitors in it too! The race motto is, "Show us your speed!" and many people do. But, everyone looks out for the new racers and makes sure they have a good time as well!

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: Race was well organized, well marked, on time, and run well. Only minor complaint is the new bike course south on the Esplanade is narrower due to recent street improvements so it's a little "hermosa-ish," i.e., getting three levels of racers through (slow, medium, fast) in one narrow lane. Definitely a great local race, and will continue to be involved either as a volunteer or participant.

  • Comments: This is the first triathlon I've ever done, so it's amazing to see how far I've come in a year. I didn't stick around as long since I had stuff to do that day and fewer friends came out than last year.

  • Comments: Many people say that this is the ideal first triathlon for someone starting out, and I agree. I found out a lot of weaknesses in my training and overall preparedness, and I've only gotten better because of it. Everyone was friendly and very encouraging. Some friends and I hung out near the last turn of the race to cheer on remaining finishers and it's awesome to see the look of accomplishment on people's faces. I can't wait to hit this race next year and kill my old time. I'm sure without some of the setbacks I faced I could have easily cut 15 minutes from my time. Look out 2011!

  • Comments: This race is soooo well run and was so much fun to be a part of. Volunteers were literally everywhere helping out making sure you knew EXACTLY where to go. I had a great time and will definitely be back next year to hopefully move up two spots on the podium!

  • Comments: This is a really unique race in that the three segments are designed to yield roughly equivalent times for most athletes. For someone like me who usually lags on the bike, that's pretty appealing.

  • Comments: It is Redondo Beach. I liked the long swim. They need more volunteers on the bike course! I ALMOST HIT A 90 YEAR-OLD LADY USING A WALKER TO CROSS COURSE WITH NO VOLUNTEERS IN SIGHT! This is my second Tri, so I can be more critical than "I survived". I learned that, although I am a good pool swimmer, I need more OWS. I need more bike TITS. Keep working on my running and overall conditioning. *Note: I could not see my name on the overall results (because I raced as clyde?) My Overall result is based on where my time would have fallen. My next goal is to go from the 33-34th percentile to being in the 60-70th percentile.

  • Comments: All of my times are "Guesstimates" because I am pretty sure the timing chip was off. I know I am somewhere between 58minutes and 1hr 3m. I believe the first few splits are right and just the run is off. Other than that, it is a great beginner/fun race. Such a unique race in that it is very close to be an anaerobic race with the transitions/short distance and lack of rest! Will look forward to competing next year and not putting in such a poor performance

  • Comments: This was my second tri of the season and my first Sprint distance. I was proud to see my numbers and thought I was much slower overall. But it looks like the time I set for my goal was good. I wanted to finish in 75 - 80 minutes and I was psyched to see me coming in 02:37 ahead of goal.

  • Comments: What a fantastic race. It is SOOOOO newcomer-friendly and there is such a triumphant, festive spirit to it because of that. Everything is well-organized, and the post-race goodies are excellent. The length of the swim can be daunting--this is a unique race in that it is equilateral, i.e., the average person would finish all three legs in roughly the same time--as can be the three-part run up to T1. But there is no hurry, and there are lots of volunteers, and everyone is so encouraging.

  • Comments: I was not excited about this race ahead of time. I was a few weeks ago, but the last week I let my excitement wane as I caved in on my weight watchers dieting. I just thought I'd go out and do it as my workout for the weekend. But I was really into it once I got there. And had a great time!
