  • Comments: Very well run race. I will probably email the race director about the bike peletons though. It is aggravating to see so many people flouting the rules when I was trying to obey them.

  • Comments: This was my first HIM and just a prep race for Eagleman. Had a goal time of 6:30 and came in right at 6:30. Im pleased as punch! It was a really fun day! Challenging course but nothing that I couldn't handle. I knew I could do all the parts and I knew the speed that I could do them as stand alone events but I didn't know what that would look like all together. I raced pretty conservatively today. Im glad that I did this race so I am more mentally prepared for eagleman. Looking forward to Eagleman where the course will be flat and I will have one less thing to think about w/the absence of hills. (although hills did make the course interesting and gave me something to think about)

  • Comments: I'll be back. I love this race. Low budget and low key in a remote location. I felt for the volunteers as the wind was blowing the cups everywhere and we are not a very considerate lot.

  • Comments: Lake Anna is a great race venue and Setup events really put on a great triathlon. Plenty of aid stations. Very helpful volunteers. The course is really nice...especially the bike course. There were some complaints about the traffic on the course but I didn't think it was a problem at all. I was somewhat disappointed that the check-in lines were so long. I was checked in by 6:40am...done with setting up transition by 6:50am and my wave started at 7am. That made for a stressful 30 minutes. Only a couple bathrooms as well. They definately needed more porto-johns.

  • Comments: I am so happy I can't even describe it to you - official time = 4:55:32!!! I had a secret goal that I considered barely possible if everything came together perfectly to go sub 5 (which would be a 50 minute PR - but I'm almost 40 pounds lighter than I was when I set that PR). When I left the hotel on race morning there were 20mph constant winds with gusts to 30... plus it was HUMID (I sweat a lot). I went from being nervous to being completely "oh well" and just decided to have fun. I knew everyone would be b*tching about how choppy the lake was and how hard the bike was going to be and all that. I love the irony of triathletes who pay thousands of dollars to challenge themselves and suffer and then get all sissified when it's windy or hilly or choppy or hot or whatever. HTFU people, we're all equally disadvantaged. I switched my garmin over to HR/time only, and removed my bike computer... something I've been wanting to experiment with for some time but always have big time goals

  • Comments: Set Up does a great job but they need to add some port-a-potties to the park for a big race like this!! They also seemed to lack some voluteers this year---perhaps the problem at packet pick up---some of the aid stations seemed like only a couple of people... I really like this race and plan to make it part of my early season most if not every year.

  • Comments: Beautiful countryside and although it is brutal to run past the finish line twice and up a big hill immediately after, the whole run course is safe. The biggest difficulty is getting there through traffic on Friday. Good help from police, EMS and volunteers. Well marked asphalt with mile markers. Water handoffs on bike went well.

  • Comments: It was a good race. It was just hillier than I'm looking to do. Had there been only wind or only hills I probably would have done better. With both it kicked my tucas. I'm not near as upset about this as some might be. I'm much stronger this year than I was at the same time last year. Had this wind been in evidence in my first two races last year I would not have finished them and would have had to take a DNF.

  • Comments: The park (Lake Anna) is a beautiful setting for the race (thanks for reminding me Josh). Definitely would consider trying to camp there if I ever did it again and try to enjoy it more. As it was, I felt hurried or spent the whole time and missed taking a moment or two to enjoy the beautiful setting. Take out the traffic (and wind) on the bike ride, and that would have been lovely too. They needed more volunteers at the beginning - barely was able to get all my stuff together for my start... and I wasn't alone, everyone was scrambling because of the lines. For goodness sake, get some portajohns! Let me say that again... Port-a-potty! Don't run out of water/heed on 1st bike station... people are planning on that (that being said, it was my first time having bike stations and that was WONDERFUL). Run stations were great... thanks! How about a race clock somewhere on the course... like maybe at least the finish line? [Notes: My "too hard" rating is only b/c of it being based

  • Comments: Thanks to all the voluteers who braved first the cold and then the heat to aid the particpants during the race. And to the parents of the younger volunteers, you are doing a great job raising the generation that will be picking my nursing home. Thanks, John

  • Comments: Very disappointed in the run. I thought that after doing the MCM 08 I would be much better prepared mentally and physically for the last two hours of the race. 3:57:10 in heartrate zone. Heartrate min, ave and peak: 104, 144, 170. 6,981 calories. Ate three Gu on bike and two on run. Drank 18 oz of Gatorade, about 30 oz of water and Heed on bike. Drank small amounts of water, water and Heed or Heed at every run station.

  • Comments: Given that the race is in the middle of nowhere they did a good job of getting volunteers. The volunteers worked hard and run and bike aid stations were set up at the right places. Things were on time, post race food was good, results were posted on site very soon after the end and full results were on the website by mid-afternoon. Pretty impressive organization.

  • Comments: It turns out that I placed second in my age group, and I finished fifth overall (females who did the half). I also qualified for the USAT National half-Ironman championships. It’s in September. And TBD if I am going to go. We’ll see what the season brings. Right now, I’m holding out for Kona……LOL. It was awesome to do this race with Tim, Brad, and K. I loved the two loop thing, because it gave me an opportunity to see almost everyone. Too bad Tim and I didn't see each other on the course at all!!! Not enough food after the race, which was disappointing. I wanted some real grub and all they had was chex mix, oreos, goldfish, and oranges. They had chicken stew, but who wants to eat stew after a hot race? (I had some, but still!)

  • Comments: It was organized except for no ambulance which delayed the start by 30 minutes. I liked the small size and quality of the racers but I didn't like how the race organizers shut down the finish line at 6:30 hours. This left a lot of people on the course with no one at the finish line. Not cool. The swag and post race stuff was minimal but probably not a big thing for the people who go to this kind of race.

  • Comments: Looked like a nice swim course had the water been warmer. Bike was alright...kinda crappy roads on the last 1/2 of each loop. Not that I needed one, but not enough port-o-potties on the bike course. Didn't like the run course as it was either up or downhill. Aid stations approx every mile. Had tiny cups (~6oz w/ ~4oz of liquid in each)...kinda annoying. Event was delayed 18min b/c paramedics were late. They ran out of any of the real food (which was just hamburgers and hot dogs), which is pretty pathetic. Location was great...ample bathrooms....even showers and plently of parking.

  • Comments: I left out in my report how great it was to see people I knew on the course. Seeing Jason, probably my number 1 training partner because we have been riding together since last summer, was great. And having Nikki as a spectator was awesome as well. Other friends Bill, Ernie and Jean were great as well! And I got to meet Brad and Kristin on the course! It was a good course but the post race food stinks. Chex mix fruit and oreos are not what I wanted. And Red beans and rice made me want to puke. And the one aid station that I asked for endurolytes said they didn't know what they were even though they were posted as on the site. It was a well run event and I enjoyed the course.

  • Comments: The race was one of the most painful. I am glad I did it, but it hurt. I don't think I would do another April HIM again. The course was pretty good...I liked the swim and bike courses, but the run course was pretty boring. There weren't enough aid stations on the bike and there was a serious shortage of port-o-potties in tbe bike course. It may not be fair though...my only other HIM comparison is Eagleman. Overall, it was a well run race with a good swag.
