  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: Amazing event. Apart from the run course, everything's a treat. Camping spaces were already largely taken by 11am on Friday...the overflow campground was a decent choice (although the decrepit portapotties...complete with black widow...were a downer). Long lines for shuttles vs. steep hikes with bike and transition bag are the biggest challenge of the weekend.

  • Comments: This is a world-class event. They do an incredible job considering the amount of athletes and spectators on site both during the race and othewise. The finish chute was like being at the Olympics. My only complaints was that they should have had some more port-o-potties in the camping areas, and have some more food choices at the aid stations.

  • Comments: Really a very well run race. Incredible amount of volunteers. The aid stations were terrific. LOTS of water. I didn't take anything other than water, a hose over my body and a few orange wedges. The Cal Poly students were having a great time. Some stations they were singing, every single one of them was encouraging the entire day. The course itself is a killer. Really challenging to say the least. I was prepared and while i say the course was "too hard" based on my ability, i would do it again. It wasn't that it was "too" hard, it is just freaking HARD. Period. Lots of people have a hard time on the run. It's a challenge, plain and simple and that is why we do triathlons. I always knew this was a hard course and never thought I'd attempt it. Now that i have, I know that i can handle any course. It is an accomplishment in and of itself to finish this race and i did it!

  • Comments: I am posting this in here because I was asked to so enjoy.... MY 2009 WILDFLOWER ADVENTURE The journey to Wildflower Wow what an amazing weekend. I found this weekend to be full of adventure, excitement, and every other emotion possible. The adventure really began on Thursday. We started off leaving late (this is not uncommon for my family) The people that came on the trip were myself, my fiance, my father, and his friend Jan. My father and Jan picked my fiance and I up from our apartment only about an hour late, but that is okay because I too was running about an hour or so late. my fiance and father got most the stuff loaded in the van while I took my sister and her boyfriend out shopping for food because they were watching our house while we went out of town. We came back and I helped everyone finish loading the van and we got on the road. After a short 3 hour drive (it would have

  • Comments: Saw PGoldberger at the finish.. again!! is he stalking me?? :) Hung out for a bit post race to recover, then gathered my stuff and hiked up the huge dirt trail. F*** that was hard...... Beer and carne asada post race tasted great. Although I didn't hit my sub 6 goal, that was aggressive to start with. Had I ran to my potential, I could get close. Turns out, this race was only 12 seconds off my best HIM swim, 4 minutes off my best HIM bike, and 21 minutes :( off my best HIM run. So maybe the next one will be a flat course :) Wildflower is an incredibly well run and freaking HARD race. Much harder than I remembered. Which is good, since I won't remember how hard it was come December when it's time to sign up for 2010 :)

  • Comments: This was my 2nd WF, and it was one of the best race experiences I have ever had. A lot of that had to do with the fact that my cousin Cory flew in from Minnesota to participate in his first ever 1/2 iron distance race. He is an amazing endurance athlete, and at age 57 was able to handle WF/no problem! He did his first ever wetsuit swim. He used my sons road bike. He may have set the record for the longest EVER T1/T2 times though! We had a blast! As for me, I came in 3rd here last year, and I was able to knock 8' off last years time. A 5h7' WF is no small feat, and I am thrilled at how I executed my race in all aspects. We are all so blessed to be able to do these events, and we should be thankful every day for the gift of health and fitness, no matter what level we may be at! Peace Out LAR DOG

  • Comments: Wildflower is Awesome. After the race I swore I would never do this race again but the next day I was already taking about going back (when I am more fit - hehe). This race should be on any Triathletes schedule. This was my first 70.3 race and it was extremely hard, but it was exciting and very cool. The vibe was awesome and the setting and overall difficulty make this a race that I am proud to have completed. It was a great day and I would like to thank the Lord for giving me the strength to complete this race, my Father-In-Law for being my support, Larry Davidson my awesome coach and Quinton Berry for all of his help.

  • Comments: Best race ever! Pretty much everything about this trip was great. Even the weather was about as perfect as you could ask for. Quick warning, this race report is pretty long! So my Wildflower story starts with a sleepless Tuesday night. I had been training all out for over 6 months and it was finally time to head up for the race. I packed my stuff up Wednesday morning and took off around noon. Made a quick pit stop in Vista to have lunch with the Director of Product for Zoot sports to discuss a few things and then I was on the road again up to San Luis Obispo. I met up with my friend Dan who I had grown up with and now lives in SLO. Spent the night at Dan’s house then Thursday morning we made a quick food run, packed our stuff up and continued on to Lake San Antonio. There were still very few people up there on Thursday so we were able to get a great camp site. We tried to find a spot with my tri club but we couldn’t find them as they hadn’t put up their sign yet and there weren’t many

  • Comments: I'm glad I did not quit. I am also glad that I was able to stay with the bonk recovery and finish out. Lots of lessons learned and will take that into my training for Lake Placid and Florida. Also happy with all the things that happened, I moved on and did not let it beat me down too bad. Wildflower is one hell of a race and everyone should do it at least once.

  • Comments: Okay T3. Wilflower presents a problem with T3. For me, as a BOPer, I see no reason to stick around after the race. T3, the Run - Beer/home/undies/television/sportcenter transition is an important part of my overall race strategy. Just a forewarning, if you are of the same mind as I am as it relateds to T3, Wildflower will confront you with a seriously divisive choice. You must either wait in snaking long line to take the tram up Lynch hill or commit to walk with gear and bike up a ridiculously steep hill. Either of which is cruel and unusual punishment caused by the local topography, expecially having just finished your race. Maybe the waffle cone after all...... you've..... yes.... you've earned it. A mighty mighty petty gripe for such a well orchestrated race to be sure. Yeah, its a tough course , but the whole thing is just so well put together and the energy of it is so contagious, how could anyone not recommend this?

  • Comments: Wildflower is a terrific tri-scene, and the VIBE is KILLER...it should be on any serious triathletes list of MUST DO races....EPIC BIKE and EPIC RUN....they say if you can do this race well, you WILL fare well in any North America Ironman...and I am a believer! 3rd Tri of the year for Lar Dog...and my 3rd straight PODIUM finish....can you tell I am proud of that!!

  • Comments: This is Wildflower. The real draw is the venue for the race and the actual race itself. TriCal seems to have slipped a bit this year with some of hte organization possibly because of the loss of Jamba Juice $$$. I will surely be back for another bite at the apple and next time, this will be an "A" Race :)

  • Comments: Wildflower. This is my second year, first time racing, and I just love it. People say "aw you shoulda seen it in 1996," but everyone says stuff like that about everything. I had a blast, and can't wait to do it again. Honestly, I didn't find the course THAT tough. Yes, it was hard, as a tri. Maybe I built it up to be this monster. Maybe because I was pacing myself, it wasn't all that hard. I guess if I went 5:30 I'd be dead afterwards, but I just really enjoyed the course and the experience. I don't think I could go 5:30 there, that's not my place in life, so I might as well enjoy it. But I also climbed a lot of hills in my shoes and on my bike in prep for it. Who knows? It's just one of those things that, as a triathlete, I think you just gotta experience.

  • Comments: I am so glad I did this race and finished the long course. I'd heard a lot about this race and how hard it was. IT was well run and the whole atmosphere all weekend was fantastic. I feel like the aid stations could've been a little better stocked- green bananas and unripe oranges was kinda outta line. Other than that i'd give this race a B

  • Comments: This was an awesome race. A beautiful setting. VERY well run and organized. I enjoyed it immensely. 5300 feet of climbing between the bike and run. HUGE With that said, the finishers medal might have well been a plastic laminate! It is tiny and weighs about an ounce. Pretty pathetic actually. Also, why races continue to give cotton t-shirts out, I'll never know! Every race should give a tech shirt. People train in tech shirts and that's a great way to promote the event. I on the other hand, will be cleaning my bike with the complimentary t-shirt! Wildflower is a tough race. It is a must do race for sure.
