  • Comments: What an experience. I'm glad I got a HIM under my belt after six seasons. Now, I don't know what I'm going to do with my days. That was such a humbling experience, especially starting out my tri life as a BOPer and moving up to a MOPer over the last few years, only to become a BOPer again yesterday. No matter the status, I'm still so proud of what I accomplished on the course that day — which just happened to be my birthday.

  • Comments: A fantastic race for anyone interested in distance racing. There is a reason the Ironman brand is the gold-standard for Tri events. They simply know how to put on a race. If your thinking about racing Muncie, do it. The course will challenge you, but the staff/volunteers are there to support you every step of the way.

  • Comments: Definitely enjoyed the race. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Once again can't win the race in the swim.. many many people had slower swim time and were ahead of me. Went from top 1/4 in AG to MOP to BOP from swim to bike to run.. Ranks in report are cumulative at end of event instead of individual event ranking. The finish was definitely more emotional than I anticipated. My goal was sub 6 hours and once I realized that I would be under and not just squeeze it just hit me.

  • Comments: The run was too hilly for me and if it was a normal hot July day I would have been in toruble on the run. And the rought bike course would prevent me from repeating this race. If the IM was under a different name, it would go under. The volunteers are the best part of IM experience. The race t shirt is poor quality. The event itself is poorly ran. I try not to do IM events, but most triathlets want to do an IM event.

  • Comments: The organization commitee that put this event on did a very good job with everything. The volunteer support was amazing and the folks were happy to be helping. Even the local people who didn't have anything to do with the event were great. There were a couple people who were carrying hoses and would let you run through them to cool off. I was very impressed and very thankful for those volunteers help. I tried to thank them as much as I could.

  • Comments: Loved it. Loved the sense of accomplishment. Loved the atmosphere. I was thinking that after I crossed this off the bucket list, maybe I'd be done with triathalons for a little while. However, I just spent 20 minutes looking up races late summer and fall to see if there was one that would work! So we'll see...I also thought this would rule out an Ironman, but quite the contrary. I absolutely know I can do that now...just a matter of making the training schedule work with a family life. Off to get my 70.3 car sticker over lunch!!!

  • Comments: My friend and I stayed at Harris Chapel that is at mile 2 of the run course. It is only $15 per person and it is FANTASTIC! The nearest hotel to the race is about a 30 minute drive. This was so close. The church provides cots and breakfast. They have wifi and a beautiful park setting. You can even bring a tent and camp if you prefer. This church should be packed every year because it really is the best option. The only downfall is they do not have showers. They did however, let us leave our stuff there until after the race and come back and clean up/change clothes. Better than paying for another night at a hotel just be able to shower.

  • Comments: Due to expected extreme heat conditions on race day, organizers revised the usual Ironman 70.3 Muncie course to a distance of 1 mile swim, 30 mile bike and 3 mile run.

  • Comments: While I'm still disappointed overall with the decision to shorten the course (especially since the actual temps were about 5-7 degrees lower than forecast and the fact that Eagleman has NEVER been shortened due to heat), I still had a pretty good race despite the swim. I believe I adjusted well to the course change and was patient on the bike while others hammered and I virtually passed them later. I would bet that several of those in my AG hammered on the bike only to lose steam on the run and possibly succumb to the heat. The heat was not really a factor for me since I had raced in previous seasons, knew what to expect, how to counter it, had super support on the course, and had adequate training for it prior to the race (unlike Eagleman in early June where often one does not have any acclimation time). Would I recommend Muncie 70.3 to folks? Prior to the shortened course decision and what WTC did later to "compensate" folks, I would have said a resounding "Yes"! This is a pretty

  • Comments: Overall for the heat 100+ I was fine the entire race with the exception of the swim. On the bike and run I felt good with no distress at all. I was just hot, very very hot. I think the volunteers were great and the organization was top notch for the last minute changes that took place in the distances.

  • Comments: I wasn't able to eat anything until about 5pm that night. My stomach was still very much upset with me. In hind sight, I think I should have drank more on the course or took the time and drank a whole bottle of something in the transition area before the run.
