Overall Rank = 360/380
Age Group = 55 - 59
Age Group Rank = 19/19
Pre-race routine:

Got to the race site in plenty of time to grab race packet and get set in transition. I did the race this year with all 3 of my daughters, so a lot of time was spent pre-race working with them on setup, running through the gears on the bike, etc. We also made it a point to watch the swimmers at the start of the race ... and wow - these guys were fast :)
Swim
  • 08m 45s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 55s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 04m 3s
Comments:

With 3 daughters racing along with me this time, we all tried to exit transition together. So we took plenty of time to make sure we had everything, and were ready to go before saddling up.
Bike
  • 33m 53s
  • 9 miles
  • 15.94 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode with the 3 daughters and the bike leg was probably their least favored of the 3 sports ... my best though. We tried to ride together and have fun.
Transition 2
  • 03m 43s
Comments:

Again, we were in no hurry ... we wanted to exit transition together, make sure we had everything, were set, et al.
Run
  • 39m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 36s  min/mile
Post race
Event comments:

Setup does a nice job to organize and run the race in an organized manner. Plenty of volunteers are on hand and they stick to the script, make sure swimmers start s planned, check each participant's number on the bike against their markings when the race is over to prevent stealing someone else's bike, etc.

The 3 daughters and I had a ball, and I was so proud of these and how well they did, especially given their training levels prior to the race.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I'm not quite half way into my IM training. I just raced a sprint and on Monday I woke up and felt like I'd been drugged! Not sore, just incredibly fatigued.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.
