Sunny
Total Time = 1h 20m 41s
Overall Rank = 161/646
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 20/50
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early and had the typical morning routine. Drove to the race site with no issues. Since there was bike check and number tattoos, it was a very slick morning. Had lots of time to relax in transition.
Event warmup:

Walked the LONG walk to the start line and swam a very small amount in the water to get adjusted to the temperature. Felt pretty good.
Swim
  • 08m 34s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim. Open water has been great this year. I feel more and more confident in each race.
What would you do differently?:

Not much that I would do differently. I do need to get a little more calm when feet are right in front of my face. My breathing and pulse jump when that happens.
Transition 1
  • 04m 4s
Comments:

This SUCKED!!! The swim time was longer along with the T1 time because of the race layout. There was a quarter mile run across a bridge/dock and up a huge hill after exiting the water.
What would you do differently?:

Relax more and not let the hill get into my head. I knew it was coming but it still killed me. Again, I need more practice in T1.
Bike
  • 39m 31s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Killed the bike segment. Great course. I still have more that I can push, but it was definitely one of my best ever bike splits. I really hit the gas hard based on what I learned from the race a month ago.
What would you do differently?:

Still continue to push the limits and learn to go harder. There is more gas in the tank than a I ever thought.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Much better T2. This is getting much better and I'm feeling more comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I need to practice this, but I need to focus on T1 more than T2.
Run
  • 27m 15s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 27s  min/km
Comments:

Great run for me! Again pushed myself harder than I ever have and it paid off. One of the best 5k times for me ever. Not just in triathlon.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on my speed. For the first time in my races, my run didn't cause be to be dropped way back in the pack.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched. Grabbed some food. I finished so early the pizza wasn't there yet. Tried to stay in the shade as much as possible.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Keep training and pushing each time. I keep getting faster and faster with each race. I feel like I completely fulfilled what I was capable of right now. I know I will be faster though.

Event comments:

Great course and very fun race. Something does need to be done about T1. That's a killer! Way too early to have to go through something like that!. I highly recommend this race to someone that is interested in triathlon.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

A description of my experiences during my first triathlon. It was a great experience. I’m in better shape than I’ve ever been.
